Background: Ninety per cent of cases of congenital vaginal agenesis are represented by the Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome, the remaining 10% being represented by the testicular feminization syndrome and vaginal aplasia. Numerous surgical methods for the treatment of vaginal agenesis have been described. Neovagina construction by sigmoid colpoplasty seems to be the best surgical option as regards the anatomical and functional outcome.

Method: We report the case of three patients operated of neovagina construction with a sigmoid graft by a laparoscopic-perineal approach.

Results: The surgical intervention lasted for 330 minutes, 210 minutes and 150 minutes respectively for the three patients. There were no perioperative complications. The duration of hospitalization was respectively 7, 4 and 6 days. The length of the neovagina was 15, 14 and 18 cm without retraction on the follow-up at 2 and 6 months. The vaginal wall maintained its patency allowing normal intercourse. The patients had normal sexual life after the surgery.

Conclusion: Our results demonstrate the feasibility of laparoscopic-perineal neovagina construction by sigmoid colpoplasty when it is performed by experienced surgeons in gynecology and digestive laparoscopic surgery.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Sigmoid vaginoplasty is a safe and acceptable procedure for vaginal agenesis with good cosmetic results and acceptable complications rate. Sigmoid colon vaginoplasty is the treatment of choice because of its large lumen, thick walls resistant to trauma, adequate secretion allowing lubrication, not necessitating prolonged dilatation, and short recovery time. We investigate the feasibility, safety, and clinical therapeutic effect of laparoscopic sigmoid vaginoplasty in women with Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome.

Background: Vaginal stents play a crucial role in both non-surgical and surgical management of vaginal agenesis. Different types of stents with variable designs and materials have been described in the literature. However, a summary of various stents described in the existing data and their outcome measures needs to be studied.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates mental health issues in individuals with complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS) and Müllerian duct aplasia/agenesis (MA), comparing their psychiatric diagnoses to typical male and female reference groups.
  • - Results show that CAIS and MA patients experience anxiety and depressive disorders at about twice the rate of male referents, with some MA patients having higher rates of bipolar disorder, particularly those with uterine agenesis.
  • - The researchers conclude that while findings are somewhat reassuring, further studies with longitudinal designs are needed to better understand mental health changes in CAIS and MA patients over time.
