Interest in identifying latent growth profiles to support the psychological and social-emotional development of individuals has translated into the widespread use of growth mixture models (GMMs). In most cases, GMMs are based on scores from item responses collected using survey scales or other measures. Research already shows that GMMs can be sensitive to departures from ideal modeling conditions and that growth model results outside of GMMs are sensitive to decisions about how item responses are scored, but the impact of scoring decisions on GMMs has never been investigated.

Purpose: This study compared the occurrence of different types of generalization (within-class, across-class, and total generalization) following motor-phonetic speech therapy and linguistic-phonological speech therapy in children with a cleft palate ± cleft lip (CP ± L).
Method: Thirteen children with a CP ± L ( = 7.50 years) who previously participated in a block-randomized, sham-controlled design comparing motor-phonetic therapy ( = 7) and linguistic-phonological therapy ( = 6) participated in this study.

Variation within the non-coding genome may influence the regulation and expression of important genes involved in immune control such as the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system. Class I and Class II HLA molecules are essential for peptide presentation which is required for T lymphocyte activation. Single nucleotide polymorphisms within non-coding regions of HLA Class I and Class II genes may influence the expression of these genes by affecting the binding of transcription factors and chromatin modeling molecules.

Within class II bacteriocins, we assume the presence of a separate subfamily of antimicrobial peptides possessing a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity. Although these peptides are structurally related to the subclass IIa (pediocin-like) bacteriocins, they have significant differences in biological activities and, probably, a mechanism of their antimicrobial action. A representative of this subfamily is acidocin A from TK9201.
