We propose a facile fluorometric system for detection of gene mutations using graphene oxide (GO). A fluorescent probe DNA anneals to a specific mutant gene and is degraded by the 5'→ 3' exonuclease activity of Taq polymerase during PCR, and the released fluorophore retains fluorescence after addition of GO without quenching.

As a marker of human metabolism, acetone is important for lipid metabolism monitoring and early detection of diabetes. In this study, we developed a handheld biosensor for acetone based on fluorescence detection by utilizing the enzymatic reaction of secondary alcohol dehydrogenase (S-ADH) with β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH, = 340 nm, = 490 nm). In the reaction, NADH is oxidized when acetone is reduced to 2-propanol by S-ADH, and the acetone concentration can be measured by detecting the amount of NADH consumed in this reaction.

Introduction: Autoantibody-mediated complement activation plays an essential role in a variety of autoimmune disorders. However, the role of complement in systemic sclerosis (SSc) remains largely unknown. In this study, we aimed to determine the role of complement C3 in the development of a recently described SSc mouse model based on autoimmunity to angiotensin II receptor type 1 (AT1R).

This work introduces a fluorometric/electrical dual-biosensing logic system based on a DNA reaction network (DRN). This system was used to spatiotemporally modulate the kinetic behavior of DNA nanostructures. The system, acting as a programmable and modulative central controller introduced to implement, enabled the monitoring of the target gliotoxin.

Accurate determination of glutathione (GSH) in food supplements and human biological fluids is critical for preventing disorders related to GSH imbalances. To address this, a selective and sensitive fluorometric method was developed for GSH detection using nickel nanoclusters functionalized with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4-MBA) (PVP/4-MBA@Ni NCs). In this system, PVP serves as the stabilizer, while 4-MBA functions as both a stabilizer and reducing agent.

Introduction: The plasminogen activating (PA) system has a multitude of functions such as wound healing, proteolytic activity, collagen degradation and cell growth, and the role of the urokinase plasminogen activator/urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (uPA/uPAR) system has been studied in many disease states. The aim of this study was to investigate salivary concentrations of uPA, uPAR and uPA activity in patients with periodontitis to identify biomarkers and novel pathogenic relationships.
Methods: Saliva samples were obtained from 169 participants, comprising patients with periodontitis (n = 103) and periodontally healthy volunteers (n = 66) and analysed for uPA and uPAR with a multiplex protein assay using proximity extension analysis in a subset of samples, followed by validation with ELISA.
