Introduction: Few serum markers are valid and useful for the diagnosis or therapeutic effect monitoring of osteosarcoma. This study aimed to investigate the role of β-isomerized C-terminal telopeptides (β-CTx) and total procollagen type 1 amino-terminal propeptide (tP1NP) as serological biomarkers for osteosarcoma patients.

Materials And Methods: A total of 48 patients with osteosarcoma and 55 healthy volunteers were investigated. Serum β-CTx and tP1NP levels were measured by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay. Data were analyzed by t test with Walth's correction and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.

Results: The baseline levels of β-CTx and tP1NP were found to be significantly higher in patients with osteosarcoma than the healthy volunteers. The mean areas under the ROC curves were 0.919 (range, 0.864-0.973) for β-CTx and 0.866 (range, 0.792-0.939) for tP1NP. The levels of β-CTx and tP1NP were lower in patients with stable disease after operation than those before operation.

Conclusion: These findings support our hypothesis that β-CTx and tP1NP are promising serum biomarkers for diagnosing or monitoring osteosarcoma.

Relationship between bone turnover markers and renal disease in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes: a cross-sectional study.

BMC Endocr Disord

September 2024

Department of Endocrinology, Guang'anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing, China.

Objective: The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and bone metabolism disorders increase with age. Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is one of the most serious microvascular complications of T2DM, and bone metabolism disorders are closely linked to the occurrence of DKD. The relationship between bone turnover markers(BTMs) and the kidney disease in elderly patients with T2DM remains unclear.

Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, Affiliated Hospital 2 of Nantong University, and First People's Hospital of Nantong City, Nantong, 226006, People's Republic of China.

Background: Physical activity (PA) exerts an important influence on glycemic control in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients. Alterations in body composition in patients with T2D may be involved in the overall pathophysiologic process, but PAs and alterations in body composition have been poorly studied.

Methods: A total of 615 patients with T2D were selected by convenient sampling.

Previous studies have suggested that gamma-delta T cells play an important role in the pathogenesis of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). In this pilot study, the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and healthy volunteers were stained and analyzed by flow cytometry to distinguish gamma-delta T cells and its subtypes, and then to report the distribution of gamma-delta T cells and iyts subtypes and their correlation with ankylosing spondylitis. A total of 17 patients with active AS and 10 age- and gender- matched healthy volunteers were enrolled in this study, and their peripheral blood were drawn to collect mononuclear cells (PBMCs).
