The monotypic Oriental genus Vitruvius Distant, 1901 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomidae: Pentatominae), having an intricate and confusing taxonomic history, is revised. A new species, Vitruvius dobby Roca-Cusachs, Rider & Kment new species, is described from Cambodia and Thailand. Notes on the hypothesized classification of the genus based on both biology and morphology are presented, but its systematic placement is left unresolved.

The known distribution and habitat information of the three described species of the genus Thaumastella Horváth, 1896 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomomorpha: Pentatomoidea: Thaumastellidae) are reviewed. In addition a fourth, undescribed species is reported from South Africa (Western Cape). Thaumastella aradoides Horváth, 1896, is recorded for the first time from Egypt, Oman, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and the states of Khartoum and Sennar in Sudan.

Importance: Elevated lipoprotein(a) increases the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and aortic stenosis.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of zerlasiran, a small-interfering RNA targeting hepatic synthesis of apolipoprotein(a), on lipoprotein(a) serum concentration.

Design, Setting, And Participants: A multicenter trial in patients with stable ASCVD with serum lipoprotein(a) concentrations greater than or equal to 125 nmol/L at 26 sites in Europe and South Africa between January 3, 2023, and April 27, 2023, with last follow-up on July 1, 2024.

Article Synopsis
  • Lipoprotein(a) is linked to cardiovascular diseases but currently lacks approved treatments, leading to the study of zerlasiran, an RNA treatment aimed at lowering its levels.
  • The study evaluated the safety and effects of zerlasiran on lipoprotein(a) levels in healthy individuals and those with stable cardiovascular conditions across several countries.
  • Results indicated that zerlasiran significantly reduced lipoprotein(a) concentrations without serious side effects, making it a promising option for treatment.
