: Iodo-metaiodobenzylguanidine single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (I-MIBG SPECT/CT) is used to evaluate the cardiac sympathetic nervous system in cardiac diseases such as arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) and α-synucleinopathies such as Parkinson's diseases. A common feature of these diseases is denervation. We aimed to compare quantitative and semi-quantitative cardiac sympathetic innervation using I-MIBG imaging of ARVC and α-synucleinopathies.

The complex role of cardiovascular imaging in viability testing.

Prog Cardiovasc Dis

January 2025

Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Medicine, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, USA. Electronic address:

Myocardial viability assessment is used to determine if chronically dysfunctional myocardium may benefit from coronary revascularization. Cardiac magnetic resonance with late gadolinium enhancement is the current gold standard for visualizing myocardial scar and provides valuable insight into myocardial viability. Viability assessments can also be made with Cardiac Positron Emission Tomography, Echocardiography, Single Photon Emission Tomography, and Cardiac Computed Tomography with each having advantages and disadvantages.

Purpose: Coronary artery disease (CAD) underestimation represents a major pitfall of single-photon emission computed tomography-myocardial perfusion imaging (SPECT-MPI). Coronary artery calcium score (CACS) has emerged as a sensitive tool for the assessment of suspect CAD; however, the integration of SPECT-MPI with CACS has been seldom evaluated, so far, and was therefore the aim of the present study.

Methods: Patients undergoing SPECT-MPI with CACS and subsequent coronary angiography were included.

Introduction: This study examined factors that affected sentinel lymph node (SLN) identification of patients with endometrial cancer having a preoperative estimation of low recurrent risk.

Methods: This study included 97 patients with endometrial cancer who attempted to identify SLN using a uterine cervical injection of technetium-99 m phytate under laparoscopic or robotic-assisted surgery at our institute. A preoperative single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and intraoperative gamma probe were used to detect hot nodes.

Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) offers significant benefits in symptom alleviation, reduction of rehospitalization rates, and overall survival of patients with heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (rEF). However, despite its proven efficacy, precisely identifying suitable CRT candidates remains a challenge, with a notable proportion of patients experiencing non-response. Accordingly, many attempts have been made to enhance patient selection, and to identify the best imaging parameters to predict the response and survival after CRT implantation.
