The structure of 3-iodobenzaldehyde (3IB) was characterized by FT-IR, Raman and single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The conformational isomers, optimized geometric parameters, normal mode frequencies and corresponding vibrational assignments of 3IB were examined using density functional theory (DFT) method, with the Becke-3-Lee-Yang-Parr (B3LYP) functional and the 6-311+G(3df,p) basis set for all atoms except for iodine. The LANL2DZ effective core basis set was used for iodine. Potential energy distribution (PED) analysis of normal modes was performed to identify characteristic frequencies. 3IB crystallizes in monoclinic space group P21/c with the O-trans form. There is a good agreement between the theoretically predicted structural parameters, and vibrational frequencies and those obtained experimentally. In order to understand halogen effect, 3-halogenobenzaldehyde [XC6H4CHO; X=F, Cl and Br] was also studied theoretically. The free energy difference between the isomers is small but the rotational barrier is about 8kcal/mol. An atypical behavior of fluorine affecting conformational preference is observed.

This study presents the development and characterization of manganese ferrite (MnFeO)-based nanocomposites with graphite oxide (GO) and chitosan (CS) for efficient dye removal from textile wastewater and aqueous solution. Comprehensive characterization was performed using FT-IR, Raman, XRD, BET, SEM, DRS and Zeta potential techniques. XRD analysis confirmed the cubic spinel structure of MnFeO, with characteristic peaks at 2θ = 32, 35, 48, 53, 62, and 64°.

The accumulation of disposable face masks (DFMs) has become a significant threat to the environment due to extensive use during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this research, we investigated the degradation of DFMs after their disposal in landfills. We replicated the potential degradation process of DFMs, including exposure to sunlight before subjecting them to synthetic landfill leachate (LL).

In this work, Density Functional Theory (DFT) on Gaussian 09 W software was utilized to investigate the phenylephrine (PE) molecule (C9H13NO2). Firstly, the optimized structure of the PE molecule was obtained using B3LYP/6-311 + G (d, p) and CAM-B3LYP/6-311 + G (d, p) basis sets. The electron charge density is shown in Mulliken atomic charge as a bar chart and also as a color-filled map in Molecular Electrostatic Potential (MEP).

To explore the effects of the components in the raw materials and by-products of co-pyrolysis on the physicochemical properties of biochar, rice husk (RH, which has a high percentage of lignin and a low content of N) and sawdust (SD, which has a high percentage of both cellulose and N) were used as typical raw materials to prepare co-pyrolysis biochar. The benzene vapor adsorption performance of the obtained biochar was then tested on a fixed-bed device. At the same time, the by-product components generated during pyrolysis were analyzed using thermogravimetric (TG), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
