Purpose: Balance impairment is recognized as an important issue for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The aim of this study was to examine the effect of balance training as part of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) on balance in COPD patients.
Methods: Patients were randomly assigned to an intervention or usual care group. The intervention group underwent balance training 3 times a week for 6 months in addition to the standard PR. The control group received 6 months of the standard PR program only. Balance was assessed by the Timed Up and Go (TUG), Tinetti, Berg Balance Scale (BBS), and the Unipodal Stance (UST) tests. Balance confidence was rated using the ABC scale. Exercise tolerance was determined using a 6-Minute Walk Test.
Results: Following the completion of PR, the intervention group showed improvement in all balance measures. Only TUG, ABC, and UST scores were improved in the usual care group (P < .05). Results demonstrated significant between-group differences in TUG, Tinetti, BBS, and ABC scores (P < .01) and UST score (P < .05).
Conclusions: Balance training incorporated into a standard PR program significantly improves scores on balance tests in COPD patients.

Background: Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is a neurodegenerative disorder, with balance instability as a feature of the disease. Balance instability often manifests before the onset of obvious ataxic symptoms in patients. However, current clinical scales exhibit limited sensitivity in characterizing changes in pre-ataxic patients.

Background: COVID-19 increased the burden of childcare on parents, leaving women vulnerable to increased disparities in the division of domestic labor. Women healthcare workers may be at heightened risk of worsening gender parity in the workplace as a result.
Objective: To examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on gender parity in the division of household responsibilities among women healthcare workers.

Aims: This study investigates the differences in patient demographics and outcomes between teaching and non-teaching hospitals in Iran. By analyzing these differences, it aims to provide useful information for policymakers to optimize resource allocation, improve patient care, and balance educational and service delivery goals in teaching hospitals.
Materials And Methods: In this cross-sectional investigation, both teaching and non-teaching general hospitals were examined.

To achieve a long cycle life and high-capacity performance for Li-O batteries, it is critical to rationally modulate the formation and decomposition pathway of the discharge product LiO. Herein, we designed a highly efficient catalyst containing dual catalytic active sites of Pt single atoms (Pt) paired with high-entropy alloy (HEA) nanoparticles for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in Li-O batteries. HEA is designed with a moderate d-band center to enhance the surface adsorbed LiO intermediate (LiO(ads)), while Pt active sites exhibit weak adsorption energy and promote the soluble LiO pathway (LiO(sol)).

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a prevalent mental health condition that often begins in adolescence, with significant long-term implications. Indicated prevention programs targeting adolescents with mild symptoms have shown efficacy, yet the methods for identifying at-risk individuals need improvement. This study aims to evaluate the utility of Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR) in predicting the onset of MDD among non-depressed adolescents, compared to traditional screening methods.
