Aim: The present cross-sectional study following the STROBE guidelines was conducted to assess the prevalence of oral mucosal lesions among males, females, and eunuchs residing in Bhopal city, Madhya Pradesh India.

Materials And Methods: Based on convenient non-probability snowball sampling technique, all the self-identified eunuchs residing in the city of Bhopal who were present at the time of examination and who fulfilled the selection criteria were examined. A cross section of the general population (males and females) residing in the same locality where these eunuchs live was also examined. The World Health Organization (WHO) oral health assessment proforma (1997) was used to collect the information on oral mucosal lesions. All the obtained data were analyzed by using a Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 20.

Results: Overall prevalence of oral mucosal lesions was 127 (19.9%) among the study subjects. Fifty-nine (28.5%) eunuchs, 56 (25.7%) males, and 12 (5.6%) females were observed to have some oral mucosal lesions. Oral submucous fibrosis (6.4%), leukoplakia (5.5%), and traumatic ulceration (4.2%) were the major oral mucosal conditions observed.

Conclusion: The information presented in this study adds to our understanding of the common oral mucosal lesions occurring in the eunuch population. Efforts to increase patient awareness of the oral effects of tobacco use and to eliminate the habit are needed to improve the oral and general health of eunuchs.

Department of Dentistry, Faculty of Health Sciences, Universidad Fernando Pessoa Canarias, Santa María de Guía, Gran Canaria, Spain.

This descriptive study focuses on the oral health of African migrants, especially adolescents, arriving in the Canary Islands. Notably, these patients show a high prevalence of caries and oral mucosal alterations. These are influenced by multifactorial factors, such as living conditions in their country of origin, hygiene habits, and sugar-rich diets.

Oral Tributyrin Treatment affects Short-Chain Fatty Acid Transport, Mucosal Health, and Microbiome in a Mouse Model of Inflammatory Diarrhea.

Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Infectious Diseases and Endocrinology, Hannover Medical School, Hannover, Germany. Electronic address:

Butyrate may decrease intestinal inflammation and diarrhea. This study investigates the impact of oral application of sodium butyrate (NaB) and tributyrin (TB) on colonic butyrate concentration, SCFA transporter expression, colonic absorptive function, barrier properties, inflammation, and microbial composition in the colon of slc26a3 mice, a mouse model for inflammatory diarrhea. In vivo fluid absorption and bicarbonate secretory rates were evaluated in the cecum and mid-colon of slc26a3 and slc26a3 mice before and during luminal perfusion of NaB-containing saline and were significantly stimulated in both slc26a3 and slc26a3 colon by NaB.

Int J Clin Pediatr Dent

December 2024

Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Saveetha University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

Aim: To assess the prevalence of tooth-related, soft tissue, and intraosseous pathologies in the pediatric population (0-17 years) in a South Indian dental teaching institution and to compare the results with previous literature.

Materials And Methods: Clinical data from the pedodontics department and histopathological records from the oral pathology department were analyzed from the year 2010 to 2022 and grouped into two major categories: group I, abnormalities of teeth, and group II, intraosseous and mucosal/soft tissue lesions. The data were entered into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, and descriptive analysis was conducted using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software, version 26.

SARS-CoV-2-related proteins, ACE2 and TMPRSS2, are determinants of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Although these proteins are expressed in oral-related tissues, their expression patterns and modulatory mechanisms in the salivary glands remain unknown. We herein showed that full-length ACE2, which has both a fully functional enzyme catalytic site and high-affinity SARS-CoV-2 spike S1-binding sites, was more highly expressed in salivary glands than in oral mucosal epithelial cells and the lungs.
