Esophageal stricture is a well-described complication following tracheoesophageal fistula repair. Herein, we report two patients who had persistent esophageal strictures after several months of repeat balloon dilatations. Each patient was treated with a single application of topical mitomycin C in addition to esophageal dilatation, which resulted in complete resolution of the stricture.

Severe esophageal strictures resulting from chemoradiotherapy pose persistent therapeutic challenges despite the availability of treatments such as endoscopic balloon dilation and medications. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has emerged as a promising treatment option for refractory radiation-induced injury to several organs. Herein, we present the case of a 79-year-old male patient with refractory radiation-induced ulcerative esophageal strictures after chemoradiotherapy.

Objective: The construction of a gastric-tube-substitute esophagus is a common method for digestive tract reconstruction after esophagectomy. However, the incidence of postoperative anastomotic leakage remains high. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of 2 gastric tube fabrication methods-cis-cutting and retro-cutting-in reducing postoperative anastomotic leakage.

Background Endoscopic dilatation is the cornerstone therapy for esophageal strictures. The primary indication for dilatation is to provide immediate and durable symptomatic relief from dysphagia. Following esophageal dilatation, the two most common major consequences are bleeding and perforation, both of which are quite rare.

Introduction: What interventions effectively prevent postoperative stenosis following endoscopic resection (ER) of superficial esophageal cancer? This study aimed to identify effective interventions or combinations through a systematic review and network meta-analysis.
Methods: Six databases were systematically searched for eligible studies up to 30 April 2023, on interventions to prevent esophageal stenosis post-ER. Odds ratios (ORs) evaluated stenosis rate (primary outcome) and complications (secondary outcome), while mean differences (MD) evaluated endoscopic balloon dilatation (EBD) sessions post-stenosis.
