Problem: The pregnancy-associated disease preeclampsia is related to the release of syncytiotrophoblast extracellular vesicles (STBEV) by the placenta. To improve functional research on STBEV, reliable and specific methods are needed to quantify them. However, only a few quantification methods are available and accepted, though imperfect. For this purpose, we aimed to provide an enzyme-linked sorbent assay (ELSA) to quantify STBEV in fluid samples based on their microvesicle characteristics and placental origin.
Method Of Study: Ex vivo placenta perfusion provided standards and samples for the STBEV quantification. STBEV were captured by binding of extracellular phosphatidylserine to immobilized annexin V. The membranous human placental alkaline phosphatase on the STBEV surface catalyzed a colorimetric detection reaction.
Results And Conclusion: The described ELSA is a rapid and simple method to quantify STBEV in diverse liquid samples, such as blood or perfusion suspension. The reliability of the ELSA was proven by comparison with nanoparticle tracking analysis.

Purpose: To evaluate the advantages and clinical utility of metagenomic sequencing (MGS) in diagnosing infectious uveitis pathogens.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 20 infectious uveitis patients (20 eyes) who received treatments at the Affiliated Eye Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from May 2020 to February 2021. Anterior aqueous humor of the patients was collected and analyzed using MGS.

Background: The SARS-CoV-2 virus's frequent mutations have made disease control with vaccines and antiviral drugs difficult; as a result, there is a need for more effective coronavirus drugs. Therefore, detecting the expression of various diagnostic biomarkers, including ncRNA in SARS-CoV2, implies new therapeutic strategies for the disease.
Aim: Our study aimed to measure NEAT-1, miR-374b-5p, and IL6 in the serum of COVID-19 patients, demonstrating the correlation between target genes to explore the possible relationship between them.

Purpose: Radiotherapy presents a curative approach for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC); however, the cellular radiosensitivity heterogeneity limits its efficacy. Thus, investigating the specific mechanisms of radioresistance in NPC is crucial for identifying and employing effective radiosensitizing agents to enhance treatment success.
Methods And Materials: Radioresistant NPC cell lines HONE1-RR and SUNE1-RR were established.

1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3), affects enteric glial cells (EGCs) activity, but the mechanism is still unknown. The current study aimed to explore whether 1,25(OH)2D3 could regulate EGCs activity via butyrate pathway in a high-fat diet model. Male C57BL/6 J mice were fed with standard diet (SDD), or vitamin-D-deficient diet (VDD), or high-fat diet (HFD), or HFD plus sodium butyrate (SBR), or HFD plus 1,25(OH)2D3, or HFD plus S100B inhibitor ONO-2506 in vivo.

Background: Existing liquid biopsy assays for protein biomarkers of cancer are mostly based on antibodies (Ab) contributing unfavorably to their high cost. Easy to express and modify in vitro, nanobodies may be a cost-effective alternative to Ab.
Results: We show that serum HER-2/neu, a biomarker and target of aggressive HER-2/neu(+) cancers, can be accurately detected in a 1.
