Immunoassay is used extensively for drug testing in pain management. Drug testing for the purpose of compliance monitoring is fundamentally different from forensic applications, which may rely on immunoassay screening to rapidly identify "negative" samples. In clinical settings, focus is shifted from identification of select drugs of abuse with low positivity rates to detection of a wide variety of licit and illicit compounds with expected high positivity rates. The primary drug classes of interest in this population, opioids and benzodiazepines, require special testing considerations when immunoassay is used. This review highlights the performance characteristics of immunoassay, with special emphasis on prescription drug classes and testing at the point-of-care.

Introduction: This paper examines the use of local antibiotic therapy in one-stage septic revision surgery for late periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs). This case study suggests that morselized bone allografts impregnated with antibiotics in powder form are a preferable alternative to polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) because they can generate higher local antibiotic concentrations. Current research also recommends using vancomycin and aminoglycosides as the preferred choice of antibiotics, as they may have low diffusion in tissues when administered intravenously, but are effective when administered locally.

Significance: Pulse oximeter measurements are commonly relied upon for managing patient care and thus often require human testing before they can be legally marketed. Recent clinical studies have also identified disparities in their measurement of blood oxygen saturation by race or skin pigmentation.
Aim: The development of a reliable bench-top performance test method based on tissue-simulating phantoms has the potential to facilitate pre-market assessment and the development of more accurate and equitable devices.

Background: Allergy to beta-lactam antibiotics (BLA), especially to penicillin, is the most commonly reported drug allergy by patients. Alternative antibiotics can yield negative consequences, such as extended hospitalization days due to less efficacy and overall higher costs. The basophil activation test (BAT) is an assay, in which activation of an individual's own basophils is quantified by flow cytometry.

Introduction: The aim of this study is to examine the physiological effects of emodin on intestinal microorganisms and the liver in the BALb/c mice.
Method And Results: Following an 8-week administration of emodin at doses of 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg/day,pathological analyses revealed that emodin significantly reduced the colon length, induced colonic crypt inflammation, diminished the colonic mucus layer, and decreased the fluorescence intensity of colonic tight junction proteins ZO-1 and Occludin. Concurrently, 16S rDNA gene sequencing corroborated that emodin altered the diversity and composition of the intestinal microbiota by increasing the to ratio.
