A novel facile method of non-doped and fluorescent terbium-doped cerium fluoride stable aqueous sols synthesis is proposed. Intense green luminescence of CeF3:Tb nanoparticles can be used to visualize these nanoparticles' accumulation in cells using confocal laser scanning microscopy. Cerium fluoride nanoparticles are shown for the first time to protect both organic molecules and living cells from the oxidative action of hydrogen peroxide. Both non-doped and terbium-doped CeF3 nanoparticles are shown to provide noteworthy protection to cells against the vesicular stomatitis virus.

Developing efficient and cost-effective rare earth element-based electrocatalysts for water splitting remains a significant challenge. To address this, interface engineering and charge modulation strategies were employed to create a three-dimensional coral-like CeF/MoO heterostructure electrocatalyst, grown in situ on the multistage porous channels of carbonized sugarcane fiber (CSF). Integrating abundant CeF/MoO heterostructure interfaces and numerous oxygen vacancy defects significantly enhanced the catalyst's active sites and molecular activation capabilities.

X-ray-induced photodynamic therapy (X-PDT) represents a promising new method of cancer treatment. A novel type of nanoscintillator based on cerium fluoride (CeF) nanoparticles (NPs) modified with flavin mononucleotide (FMN) has been proposed. A method for synthesizing CeF-FMN NPs has been developed, enabling the production of colloidal, spherical NPs with an approximate diameter of 100 nm, low polydispersity, and a high fluorescence quantum yield of 0.

This study presents the results of investigating the interaction between the CeF₃-EuF₃ system and the NaCl-KCl salt melt using spectroscopic methods. It was found that CeF₃ ions undergo no significant changes upon dissolution in the NaCl-KCl melt. In contrast, the dissolution of EuF₃, both individually and within the CeF₃-EuF₃ system, is accompanied by redox reactions leading to the formation of Eu⁺.

Ionizing radiation-induced damage in cancer and normal cells leads to apoptosis and cell death, through the intracellular oxidative stress, DNA damage and disorders of their metabolism. Irradiation doses that do not lead to the death of tumor cells can result in the emergence of radioresistant clones of these cells due to the rearrangement of metabolism and the emergence of new mutations, including those in the genes responsible for DNA repair. The search for the substances capable of modulating the functioning of the tumor cell repair system is an urgent task.

Perovskite structure compounds are significant candidates for designing new optical function materials due to their structural variability. Here, an inorganic tetravalent cerium fluoride, NaCeF, is derived from the perovskite structure through double-site cation co-substitution. NaCeF crystalizes in the non-centrosymmetric space group .
