In this brief report, we have described a rare case of schwannoma of the parotid gland in a young female who presented to us with a 3 cm diameter parotid swelling. The fine-needle aspiration cytology showed small fascicles, clusters and discrete spindle-shaped cells with long wavy nuclei. The cytological diagnosis of schwannoma of the parotid gland was offered and later confirmed by excision and histopathology.

Clear cell tumors of parotid gland encompass a wide spectrum of neoplasms, including benign and malignant epithelial neoplasms. Additionally, tumors from adjacent structures such as paraganglioma, and metastatic neoplasms may also show clear cells. Overlapping cytological features may cause difficulty in diagnosis.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate whether multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) including dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) and diffusion weighted (DW) MRI can differentiate pleomorphic adenoma (PA) from schwannoma in the parapharyngeal space.
Methods: Forty-six patients with pathologically proven PAs and 47 schwannomas in the parapharyngeal space were enrolled. All patients underwent conventional MRI, and DW-MRI and DCE-MRI were performed in 30 and 33 patients, respectively.
