Continuous exposure to low-level scattered radiation to staff performing cardiac angiography and intervention is of concern. A novel shielding solution (NSS) (Rampart IC M1128) has the potential to provide greater shielding for staff present at the table-side. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the NSS compared with a traditional shielding solution (TSS) in a randomized controlled trial that enrolled 100 patients who underwent cardiac angiography and/or intervention which were randomized to the NSS or TSS.

Background: Acute febrile illnesses (AFIs), including dengue, scrub typhus and leptospirosis, cause significant morbidity and mortality in Southeast Asia. Serological surveillance can be used to investigate the force and distribution of infections. Dried blood spot (DBS) samples are an attractive alternative to serum because they are easier to collect and transport and require less cold storage.

The infection was diagnosed in a 38-year-old male traveler returning from a one-week business/tourist trip to Laos who presented with fever, chills, joint and muscle pain, localized inguinal lymphadenopathy, rash and a typical eschar. Although laboratory findings included elevation of CRP, hepatic aminotransferases and lactate dehydrogenase, complete blood count revealed only borderline leukocytosis with mild thrombocytopenia.

Medical textiles have a need for repellency to body fluids such as blood, urine, or sweat that may contain infectious vectors that contaminate surfaces and spread to other individuals. Similarly, viral repellency has yet to be demonstrated and long-term mechanical durability is a major challenge. In this work, we demonstrate a simple, durable, and scalable coating on nonwoven polypropylene textile that is both superhemophobic and antivirofouling.
