Transverse testicular ectopia (TTE) is a rare congenital anomaly in which both testes migrate toward the same hemiscrotum. We present a case of TTE in a 33-year-old man. Laparoscopy showed the left spermatic vessels, accompanied by parietal peritoneum, which formed a septum that divided the pelvic space into two, were extending transversely from the left lateral side of the descending colon toward the right internal inguinal ring over the sigmoid colon. A panoramic laparoscopic view of the spermatic vessels in TTE can clearly demonstrate the descending pathway and partly contribute to our understanding of the etiologic mechanisms of TTE.

The missed crossing vessel during open pyeloplasty: a potential advantage of the robot-assisted approach in children.

J Robot Surg

July 2024

Division of Urology, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, 3401 Civic Center Blvd, 34th Street and Civic Center Blvd., 337 Laurel Lane, Philadelphia, PA, 19104, USA.

Objective: To investigate whether the panoramic view offered by robot-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty (RALP) reduces the likelihood of missing a crossing vessel compared to open pyeloplasty in cases where initial pyeloplasty fails.

Methods: A single institution redo-pyeloplasty database was reviewed for children treated between January 2012 to July 2023. Clinical history, imaging and operative details were reviewed to identify the etiology for the redo procedure.

The use of robotic surgery (RS) in urology has grown exponentially in the last decade, but RS training has lagged behind. The launch of new robotic platforms has paved the way for the creation of innovative robotics training systems. The aim of our study is to test the new training system from Hugo™ RAS System-Medtronic.

Purpose: Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) using a thoraco- or laparoscope is becoming a more common surgical technique. In MIS, a magnified view from a thoracoscope helps surgeons conduct precise operations. However, there is a risk of the visible area becoming narrow.

Background: A sufficient surgical workspace is crucial to avoid complications. Within classic laparoscopy, many subjective surgical rating scales (SRSs) have previously been used to evaluate the surgical workspace. This study aimed to validate a modified version of the 5-point SRS during robot-assisted radical nephrectomy (RARN).
