Objective: To evaluate cervical length in asymptomatic women with singleton pregnancies in the second trimester by means of transvaginal ultrasonography, and to examine the relation between cervical length and spontaneous preterm delivery.

Design: Observational, prospective study.

Setting: A university hospital and a county hospital in Western Sweden.

Population: A total of 2122 asymptomatic women with live singleton pregnancies without fetal anomalies.

Methods: Cervical length was measured at between 16 and 23 weeks of gestation by means of transvaginal ultrasonography. Data were analysed using logistic regression analysis.

Main Outcome Measures: Cervical length in relation to spontaneous preterm delivery <34 weeks (primary outcome) and <37 weeks of gestation (secondary outcome).

Results: Eleven women had a cervical length of ≤25 mm (0.5%) and 73 women had a cervical length of ≤30 mm (3.4%). Spontaneous preterm delivery at <34 weeks occurred in 22/2061 women (1.1%) and at <37 weeks in 87/2061 women (4.2%). There was a significant association between cervical length and spontaneous preterm delivery at <34 weeks (odds ratio 1.78; 95% confidence interval 1.19-2.65 for a decrease of cervical length by 5 mm) but no significant association at <37 weeks.

Conclusions: The rate of short cervical length of ≤25 mm was lower than expected. The study confirmed the increased risk of spontaneous preterm delivery in women with a short cervix, although the analysis was based on only a few cases. In Sweden, a larger study is needed to evaluate the prevalence of short cervical length and the possible association with preterm delivery before universal screening can be recommended.

Objectives: This non-randomised clinical study aimed to identify the phenotypic characteristics that distinguish responders from non-responders. Additionally, it sought to establish a predictive model for treatment response to obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) using mandibular advancement devices (MAD), based on the analysed phenotypic characteristics.

Material And Methods: This study, registered under identifier NCT05596825, prospectively analysed MAD treatment over 6 years using two-piece adjustable appliances according to a standardised protocol.

In exploring adjuvant therapies for head and neck cancer, hyperthermia (40-45 °C) has shown efficacy in enhancing chemotherapy and radiation, as well as the delivery of liposomal drugs. Current hyperthermia treatments, however, struggle to reach large deep tumors uniformly and non-invasively. This study investigates the feasibility of delivering targeted uniform hyperthermia deep into the tissue using a non-invasive ultrasound spherical random phased array transducer.

Transtemporal Endoscopic Deep Plane Face Lift.

Plast Reconstr Surg Glob Open

January 2025

Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Department, Yeditepe University Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey.

Background: Facial aging involves multifactorial changes affecting the bone, superficial musculoaponeurotic system, fat pads, and skin, primarily manifesting as the downward displacement of these structures. The transtemporal endoscopic deep plane face lift (TEDPF) suggests a vertical lifting method, targeting these issues without a preauricular incision.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 140 patients (133 women and 7 men) 33-67 years of age who underwent TEDPF from February 2020 to March 2023.

Holocord syringomyelia in 18 dogs.

Front Vet Sci

January 2025

Pride Veterinary Referrals, IVC Evidensia Group, Derby, United Kingdom.

Holocord syringomyelia (HSM) is characterized by a continuous spinal cord cavitation along its entire length and is currently poorly documented in dogs. This retrospective multicentric case series investigates the clinical and MRI findings in 18 dogs with HSM. The median age at presentation was 82 months (range 9-108 months) and French Bulldogs were overrepresented (50%).
