Neuroinflammation is an early event during the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders. Most studies focus on how the factors derived from pathogens or tissue damage activate the inflammation-pyroptosis cell death pathway. It is unclear whether endogenous neurotransmitters could induce inflammatory responses in neurons.

Dopamine is an important neurotransmitter that regulates numerous essential functions, including cognition and voluntary movement. As such, it serves as an important scaffold for synthesis of novel analogues as part of drug development effort to obtain drugs for treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease. To that end, similarity search of the ZINC database based on two known dopamine-1 receptor (D1R) agonists, dihydrexidine (DHX) and SKF 38393, respectively, was used to predict novel chemical entities with potential binding to D1R.

The two highly homologous subtypes of stimulatory G proteins Gαs (Gs) and Gαolf (Golf) display contrasting expression patterns in the brain. Golf is predominant in the striatum, while Gs is predominant in the cortex. Yet, little is known about their functional distinctions.

Schizophrenia is characterized by profound cognitive deficits that are not alleviated by currently available medications. Many of these cognitive deficits involve dysfunction of the newly evolved, dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC). The brains of patients with schizophrenia show evidence of dlPFC pyramidal cell dendritic atrophy, likely reductions in cortical dopamine, and possible changes in dopamine D receptors (DR).

Vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) is a secreted growth factor essential for lymphangiogenesis. VEGF-C functions in both physiological and pathological lymphangiogenesis, particularly in tumor metastasis, making it an attractive therapeutic target. Members of two families of cell surface receptors transduce VEGF-C signals: neuropilin-2 (Nrp2) and VEGF-receptor (VEGFR)-2/3.
