Placenta

January 2025

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, National Cheng Kung University Hospital, College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University, Tainan City, Taiwan. Electronic address:

Background: Preeclampsia (PE) is a serious condition characterized by hypertension and proteinuria after 20 weeks of gestation. The exact cause of PE is unknown but may involve abnormalities in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS). Genetic variations in angiotensinogen (AGT), angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), and eNOS genes have been associated with PE.

Preoperative ultrasound risk factors for peripartum hysterectomy among PAS suspected pregnancies.

BMC Pregnancy Childbirth

January 2025

Department of Obstetrics, Chengdu Women's and Children's Central Hospital, School of Medicine, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, No.1617, Riyue Avenue, Chengdu, Sichuan, 610091, China.

Objective: This study aimed to identify risk factors for peripartum hysterectomy among pregnancies complicated by suspected Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS) in preoperative obstetric imaging screening.

Methods: Data were retrospectively extracted from the Longitudinal Placenta Accreta Spectrum Study (LoPASS), covering pregnancies with PAS from January 2018 to March 2023 at our institute. Patients were divided into Control and Hysterectomy groups based on whether they underwent hysterectomy.

The spatial zonation of the murine placental vasculature is specified by epigenetic mechanisms.

Dev Cell

January 2025

Division of Vascular Oncology and Metastasis, German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), 69120 Heidelberg, Germany; European Center for Angioscience (ECAS), Medical Faculty Mannheim, Heidelberg University, 68167 Mannheim, Germany. Electronic address:

The labyrinthian fetoplacental capillary network is vital for proper nourishment of the developing embryo. Dysfunction of the maternal-fetal circulation is a primary cause of placental insufficiency. Here, we show that the spatial zonation of the murine placental labyrinth vasculature is controlled by flow-regulated epigenetic mechanisms.

Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) is widely involved in the regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation, but its role in Recurrent Spontaneous Abortion (RSA) remains unclear. RSA is a disease that affects roughly 1-2% of partner pairs, but its pathogenesis is still unclear. In recent years, many studies have focused on the role of decidual macrophages in RSA.

Background: ALG8-congenital disorder of glycosylation (ALG8-CDG) is a rare inherited metabolic disorder leading to severe multisystem manifestations, with no reported prenatal patients to date.

Methods: We describe two fetuses from a single family with ALG8-CDG presenting with prenatal hydrops, undergoing comprehensive prenatal ultrasound, umbilical cord blood biochemistry, autopsy, placental pathology, and genetic testing.

Results: Prenatal ultrasound revealed fetal hydrops, skeletal anomalies, cardiac developmental abnormalities, cataracts, echogenic kidneys and bowel, oligohydramnios, choroid plexus cysts, and intrauterine growth restriction.
