Adolescence is characterized by an intensive formation of inter-regional cortical fields interaction, in this period significantly reorganized the activities of deep brain structures and cortical-subcortical interaction are enhanced. Our objectives were to evaluate the nature of changes in the spatial organization of brain bioelectric potentials with age and characteristics of such an organization in adolescents. For this purpose, EEG studies have been conducted in 230 subjects of both sexes aged 4 to 35 years. We estimated interdependent changes of biopotentials correlations fluctuations in 20-lead EEG, using the integral index Vol. Analyzed age-related changes of EEG correlations in rest condition and during verbal activity (Russian and English texts audition). Verbal tasks were sued in subjects over 8 years. It was found that the spatial synchronization of the EEG both in background and verbal activity increases with age, but after 20 years the rate of change is significantly reduced. In adolescence (12-17 years old), sex differences appear between the degree of EEG coherence processes occurring in the left and right hemispheres in subjects performing verbal tasks. In males 12 to 14 years nonlinear changes in overall correlation (indicators VOL) was observed, whereas in females of this age systemic reorganization of the brain interrelations occurs more smoothly, ahead of 1.5-2 years.

Anorectal manometry (ARM) is a diagnostic test that utilizes pressure sensors to dynamically measure intraluminal anal and rectal pressures, thus providing an objective evaluation of anorectal functional parameters (tone, contractility, and relaxation), coordination and reflex activity, and sensation. ARM is a useful test for numerous indications including for the assessment and management of functional anorectal disorders such as fecal incontinence, functional defecatory disorders, and functional anorectal pain, preoperative assessment of anorectal function, and in facilitating/assessing response to biofeedback training. In addition, while many functional anorectal disorders present with overlapping symptoms (ie constipation, anorectal pain), ARM allows delineation of more specific disease processes and may guide treatment more effectively.

The "oblique effect" refers to the reduced visual performance for stimuli presented at oblique orientations compared to those at cardinal orientations. In the cortex, neurons that respond to specific orientations are organized into orientation columns. This raises the question: Are the orientation signals in the iso-orientation columns associated with cardinal orientations the same as those in the iso-orientation columns associated with oblique orientations, and is this signal influenced by experience? To explore this, iso-orientation columns in visual area 18 were examined using optical imaging techniques.

Background: The introduction of therapeutics for Alzheimer's disease has led to increased interest in precisely quantifying amyloid-β (Aβ) burden for diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and further clinical research. Recent positron emission tomography (PET) hardware innovations including digital detectors have led to superior resolution and sensitivity, improving quantitative accuracy. However, the effect of PET scanner on Centiloid remains relatively unexplored and is assumed to be minimized by harmonizing PET resolutions.

In developing tissues, the number, position, and differentiation of cells must be coordinately controlled to ensure the emergence of physiological function. The epidermis of the Xenopus embryo contains thousands of uniformly distributed multiciliated cells (MCCs), which grow hundreds of coordinately polarized cilia that beat vigorously to generate superficial water flow. Using this model, we uncovered a dual role for the conserved centriolar component Odf2, in MCC apical organization at the cell level, and in MCC spatial distribution at the tissue level.

Tumors are complex ecosystems of interacting cell types. The concept of cancer hallmarks distills this complexity into underlying principles that govern tumor growth. Here, we explore the spatial distribution of cancer hallmarks across 63 primary untreated tumors from 10 cancer types using spatial transcriptomics.
