Paracreptotremarosenthali sp. n. was discovered in the intestine of Xiphophorusmalinche and Pseudoxiphophorusjonesii, collected from the headwaters of Río Malila, tributary of Río Conzintla, in the Río Pánuco basin, Hidalgo, México, during 2008-2009. The new species differs from the five known species of Paracreptotrema Choudhury, Pérez-Ponce de León, Brooks & Daverdin, 2006 by having vitelline follicles that extend from a level anterior to the pharynx to mid-testes, the seminal vesicle which is more extensively folded, and a wider cirrus sac. The new species resembles Paracreptotremaheterandriae in the length of its ceca, which surpasses the posterior margin of the ovary but do not reach the testes. A key to the species of Paracreptotrema is provided.

The trematodes of Allocreadiidae are mainly parasites of freshwater fish and the family contains 18 valid genera. Since 2004, 4 genera have been described in the Americas: , , and , of which the latter was recently synonymized with by Franceschini et al., (2021).

This study investigates the systematics of Paracreptotrema Choudhury, Pérez-Ponce de León, Brooks and Daverdin, 2006 using morphological data (stained whole mounts and scanning electron microscopy) and partial sequences of the 28S ribosomal rRNA gene, obtained from freshly collected material. In total, 484 specimens representing 4 species, i.e.

From December 2012 to November 2014, 267 fish belonging to the family Profundulidae (representing nine of the 11 species of the genus Profundulus) were collected in 26 localities of Middle-America, across southern Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras, comprising the distribution range of the genus, and analyzed for helminth parasites. Additionally, a database with all ten available published accounts of the helminth parasite fauna of this genus (the only genus within the family) was assembled. Based on both sources of information, a checklist containing all the records was compiled as a tool to address future questions in the areas of evolutionary biology, biogeography, ecology and phylogeography of this host-parasite association.

The genus Paracreptotrema Choudhury, Pérez-Ponce de León, Brooks and Daverdin, 2006 (Digenea), comprises 4 species that parasitize poeciliid and cyprinodontid fishes in Middle America. Based on morphological characters exhibited by adults of the type species (Paracreptotrema blancoi Choudhury, Pérez-Ponce de León, Brooks and Daverdin, 2006 ) the genus was tentatively assigned to Allocreadiidae Looss, 1902. We sequenced domains D1-D3 of the 28S rRNA gene of several specimens of Paracreptotrema heterandriae Salgado-Maldonado, Caspeta-Mandujano and Vázquez, 2012 , and analyzed these in a phylogenetic context along with 10 allocreadiid taxa plus several xiphidiatan and 2 monorchiatan digeneans, in order to test the proposed inclusion of P.
