In Japan's Specification and Standards for Food Additive, 8th edition, two identification tests involving isopropyl citrate for detecting isopropyl alcohol and citrate are stipulated. However, these identification tests use mercury compound, which is toxic, or require a time-consuming pretreatment process. To solve these problems, an identification test method using GC-FID for detecting isopropyl alcohol was developed. In this test, a good linearity was observed in the range of 0.1-40 mg/mL of isopropyl alcohol. While investigating the pretreatment process, we found that isopropyl alcohol could be detected using GC-FID in the distillation step only, without involving any reflux step. The study also showed that the citrate moiety of isopropyl citrate was identified using the solution remaining after conducting the distillation of isopropyl alcohol. The developed identification tests for isopropyl citrate are simple and use no toxic materials.

The lipophilicity of thirteen tacrine/piperidine-4-carboxamide derivatives was assessed using reversed-phase thin-layer chromatography (RP-TLC) with MeOH and acetonitrile (ACN) as organic modifiers. Among the parameters evaluated, the R and C values obtained using MeOH were identified as the most reliable for characterizing the lipophilicity of the investigated compounds. The observed differences in lipophilicity among the derivatives resulted from a delicate interplay of substituent effects (hydrophobicity, polarity, steric hindrance, and electronic effects), positional influence, and characteristics of the organic modifier.

Chemical and biological sensors based on ZnO microwires usually rely on the change in the wire conductance with the ambient gas composition. Yet, sensitivity and recovery time of the conductance are important limitations in these applications. We treated ZnO:Sb micro-wires with single droplets of solvents for very short times and found a significant enhancement of the persistent photo-conductance and a reduction of the recovery time of the resistance by more than an order of magnitude when treated with isopropanol droplets.

Recently, the extensive use of antibiotics has unavoidably resulted in the discharge of significant quantities of these drugs into the environment, causing contamination and fostering antibiotic resistance. Among various approaches employed to tackle this problem, heterogeneous photocatalysis has emerged as a technique for antibiotic degradation. This study explores the potential of CeO as a photocatalyst for the degradation of chloramphenicol.

In this study, alginate-based composite beads were developed for the delivery of resveratrol, a compound with therapeutic potential. Two formulations were prepared: one with sodium alginate and resveratrol (AR) and another incorporating graphene nanoplatelets (AGR) to improve drug release control. The beads were formed by exploiting alginate's ability to gel via ionic cross-linking.
