We report the case of a 69-year-old woman who was diagnosed with intracardiac schwannoma without symptoms. Preoperative echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging showed a mass attached to the interatrial septum. The initial diagnosis was a myxoma or a bronchogenic cyst. The tumor was successfully excised under cardiopulmonary bypass. However, the pathology of the excised tumor was consistent with schwannoma. We suggest that cardiovascular surgeons consider schwannoma to be a possible differential diagnosis for a mass close to the interatrial septum.
Background: Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) is the most common subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in children, typically presenting with extranodal masses in areas such as the abdomen, face, and neck. Cardiac involvement in BL is extremely rare, especially in pediatric patients, and has significant implications for diagnosis, management, and prognosis.
Case Presentation: A 6-year-old male patient with Burkitt's lymphoma, presenting with an uncommon infiltration of the interatrial septum, is described.
The use of conduction system pacing (CSP) in adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) is growing, however data remain limited. In patients with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries following the double switch operation, existing CSP tools and techniques require modification to allow for the anterior displacement of the atrioventricular node and proximal conduction system in addition to navigating the tortuous route of the atrial redirection. We report the successful use of CSP focusing on the technique of delivery tool modification to allow stability on the basal septum for deployment to the area of the distal His bundle and proximal left bundle branch.
Absent pulmonary valve syndrome (APVS) is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by rudimentary PV tissue with variable degrees of PV stenosis and regurgitant pulmonary blood flow. In most cases, it is associated with tetralogy of Fallot. In a minority of APVS cases, with an unknown frequency, intact ventricular septum (IVS), patent ductus arteriosus, and possible tricuspid atresia are present.
Background: Primary cardiac tumors (PCT), such as myxoma, are rare and predominantly benign. Angiofibroma tumors are an extremely rare subtype of PCT, reported in less than ten cases. In this study, we presented a mixed tumor of myxoma and angiofibroma for the first time in the human heart.
India, owing to its population structure, faces an enormous burden of children born with congenital heart disease (CHD). Systematic challenges such as limited public health infrastructure, a shortage of trained specialists, and high out-of-pocket expenditures hinder uniform access to comprehensive CHD care. Despite these limitations, Indian pediatric cardiologists have delivered innovative and often cost-effective solutions to challenging clinical problems.
