Background: The doctor-patient relationship is essential for effective patient care, yet medical education often neglects to nurture the quality such as empathy during the initial years of training. Doctor-patient relationship is one of the modules taught in first year as part of mandatory AETCOM (Attitude, Ethics, and Communication) course in the undergraduate Indian medical curriculum. Hermeneutics, a method of interpretation, can play a vital role in introducing observational and reflective thinking skills.

Mechanisms of amphibian arrestin 1 self-association and dynamic distribution in retinal photoreceptors.

Article Synopsis
  • Visual arrestin 1 (Arr1) is crucial for stopping the light response in photoreceptors, and while its dimer and tetramer formations have been studied in mammals, similar research in amphibians is lacking.
  • In this study, the dimerization of Arr1 from two amphibian species, Xenopus laevis and Ambystoma tigrinum, revealed that both proteins primarily form dimers with similar dissociation constants (K) to mammalian Arr1.
  • Crystallography and other techniques identified two potential dimer structures for amphibian Arr1, suggesting that the interaction between dimer forms may influence their stability and that the distribution of Arr1 in dark-adapted photoreceptors is impacted by

Background/objectives: Over 60,000 patients in the United Kingdom are estimated to have artificial eyes. Manufacturing and hand-painting of artificial eyes have not changed significantly since 1948. Delays and colour-matching issues may severely impact a patient's rehabilitation pathway.

Purpose: Artificial eye users (AEUs) can experience a negative impact on psychological and emotional wellbeing, including reduced social functioning, which may be a consequence of living with one eye removed, and/or of having a prosthetic eye. This may have wider consequences for their families. We aimed to explore what it means to live with a prosthetic eye, for both AEUs and their families-and how any quality of life (QoL) issues impact on their day-to-day functioning.

Almost 400 years ago, Rubens copied Titian's The Fall of Man, albeit with important changes. Rubens altered Titian's original composition in numerous ways, including by changing the gaze directions of the depicted characters and adding a striking red parrot to the painting. Here, we quantify the impact of Rubens's choices on the viewer's gaze behavior.
