Comparison of whole genome sequencing performance from fish swabs and fin clips.

BMC Res Notes

January 2025

Leibniz Institute for the Analysis of Biodiversity Change, Museum Koenig Bonn, Centre for Molecular Biodiversity Research, Bonn, Germany.

Objective: Fin clipping is the standard DNA sampling technique for whole genome sequencing (WGS) of small fish. The collection of fin clips requires anaesthesia or even euthanisation of the individual. Swabbing may be a less invasive, non-lethal alternative to fin-clipping.

Oxidation of ,-Dimethylhydroxylamine by Hexachloroiridate(IV).

Inorg Chem

January 2025

Dept. of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama 36849, United States.

The oxidation of (CH)NOH (DMH, ,-dimethylhydroxylamine) is of interest because of the use of this reagent in actinide separations. Here, we report on the aqueous oxidation of DMH by [IrCl], a classic outer-sphere one-electron oxidant. The reaction is subject to adventitious catalysis by Fe and Cu, and this catalysis can be suppressed with 1 mM oxalate.

The effect of conflict on damage to medical facilities in Mariupol, Ukraine: A quasi-experimental study.

PLOS Glob Public Health

January 2025

Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases Department, Yale Humanitarian Research Lab, Yale School of Public Health, New Haven, Connecticut, United States of America.

Medical facilities are civilian objects specially protected by international humanitarian law. Despite the need for systematic documentation of the effects of war on medical facilities for judiciary accountability, current methods for surveilling damage to protected civilian objects during ongoing armed conflict are insufficient. Satellite imagery damage assessment confers significant possibilities for investigating patterns of war.
