Jadomycin Oct (1) was isolated from Streptomyces venezuelae ISP5230 and characterized as a structurally unique eight-membered l-ornithine ring-containing jadomycin. The structure was elucidated through the semisynthetic derivatization of starting material via chemoselective acylation of the l-ornithine α-amino group using activated succinimidyl esters. Incorporation of 5-aminovaleric acid led to jadomycin AVA, a second eight-membered ring-containing jadomycin. These natural products illustrate the structural diversity permissible from a non-enzymatic step within a biosynthetic pathway and exemplifies the potential for discovery of novel scaffolds.

Article Synopsis
  • Precision graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) have unique properties influenced by their shapes, making them promising for carbon-based electronics.
  • The study introduces a new type of GNR, called wavy GNR (wGNR), which incorporates eight-membered rings and is created through a specific chemical process.
  • This new wGNR shows effective light emission and prevents unwanted aggregation, demonstrating potential use in organic light-emitting devices, which may enhance future technologies in optoelectronics.

Five new metal complexes of Fe(II) (1), Co(II) (2), Ni(II) (3), Cu(II) (4), and Zn(II) (5), derived from an -cyclohexyl -(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl) dithiocarbamate ligand, have been successfully synthesized and fully characterized by different analytical techniques elemental analyses, FT-IR, UV-Vis, H & C NMR, and HRMS. Furthermore, complexes 4 and 5 have been characterized by the SC-XRD technique. Complex 4 adopts a distorted square planar geometry around the Cu(II) center while complex 5 adopts a distorted tetrahedral geometry around the Zn(II) center.

Synthesis of Heptagon-Containing Polyarenes by Catalytic C-H Activation.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, Nagoya University, Chikusa, Nagoya 464-8602, Japan.

Nanocarbons incorporating non-hexagonal aromatic rings - such as five-, seven-, and eight-membered rings - have various intriguing physical properties such as curved structures, unique one-dimensional packing, and promising magnetic, optical, and conductivity properties. Herein, we report an efficient synthetic approach to polycyclic aromatics containing seven-membered rings via a palladium-catalyzed intramolecular Ar-H/Ar-Br coupling. In addition to all-hydrocarbon scaffolds, heteroatom-embedded heptagon-containing polyarenes can be efficiently constructed with this method.

We previously showed that heterocyclic organobismuth compounds have excellent antimicrobial and antitumor potential. These compounds structurally consist of either six- or eight-membered rings. Previous research has shown that bi-chlorodibenzo[c,f][1,5]thiabismocine (Compound 3), an eight-membered ring, induced G/M arrest via inhibition of tubulin polymerization in HeLa cells.
