Purpose Of Review: The epidemiologic phenomenon known as the "Hispanic paradox" postulates that Hispanic/Latino Americans generally tend to live longer than other racial/ethnic communities, despite facing many socioeconomic disadvantages and other healthcare barriers. Whether this phenomenon is relevant among kidney transplantation (KT) recipients remains unclear. To investigate the possibility of a Hispanic mortality advantage, we conducted a systematic review of the published literature comparing short-term KT outcomes (first 12-months) for US Hispanic versus non-Hispanic White KT recipients.

A Novel Polytetrahydrofuran-Based Shape Memory Polyurethane Enhanced by Polyglycolide-Block-Polytetrahydrofuran-Block-Polyglycolide Copolymer.

Polymers (Basel)

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Organic-Inorganic Composites, Beijing Laboratory of Biomedical Materials, College of Life Science and Technology, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Beijing 100029, China.

A series of polyurethanes (PU-GT) were prepared using polyglycolide-block-polytetrahydrofuran-block-polyglycolide (PGA-PTHF-PGA), polytetrahydrofuran homopolymer (PTHF), glycerol, and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) by a one-pot synthesis method. The non-isothermal crystallization and subsequent heating curves showed that the PTHF component in these polyurethanes could crystallize in a temperature range of -11.5~2.

Short-Time Preamplification-Assisted One-Pot CRISPR Nucleic Acid Detection Method with Portable Self-Heating Equipment for Point-of-Care Diagnosis.

Anal Chem

January 2025

State Key Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems Engineering, School of Instrument Science and Techonology, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an 710054, China.

Infectious diseases, especially respiratory infections, have been significant threats to human health. Therefore, it is essential to develop rapid, portable, and highly sensitive diagnostic methods for their control. Herein, a short-time preamplified, one-pot clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) nucleic acid detection method (SPOC) is developed by combining the rapid recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) with CRISPR-Cas12a to reduce the mutual interference and achieve facile and rapid molecular diagnosis.

Structures and properties of α-amylase and glucoamylase immobilized by ZIF-8 via one-pot preparation.

Enzyme Microb Technol

December 2024

Guangxi Key Laboratory of Natural Polymer Chemistry and Physics, College of Chemistry and Materials, Nanning Normal University, Nanning 530001, PR China.

The immobilization of α-amylase and glucoamylase using a metal-organic framework (enzyme@ZIF-8) was prepared in situ through a one-pot method. The morphology, crystal structure, and molecular characteristics of the free enzyme and enzyme@ZIF-8 were characterized. The enzyme@ZIF-8 exhibited the rhombic dodecahedron morphology, with a decrease in particle size.

Egg sausages, an essential component of traditional Chinese hot pot cuisine, have specific storage requirements and are predominantly distributed through refrigerated channels. A significant consideration in the freezing of egg sausages pertains to syneresis and textural modifications that manifest in the protein gel structure upon thawing. This research investigated the efficacy of incorporating whey protein isolate, soy protein isolate (at concentrations of 0.
