Iotrolan, a nonionic dimeric contrast medium in myelography.

Published: August 1989

As part of a clinical Phase III study of the nonionic, dimeric contrast medium iotrolan, differences in opacification, tolerance, and effects on the electroencephalogram after myelography were examined in a double-blind comparison with iohexol. Two groups of 25 patients each received either 10 ml iotrolan 240 mg I/ml or 10 ml iohexol 240 mg I/ml for lumbar myelography, and two groups of 50 patients each received either 10 ml iotrolan 300 mg I/ml or 10 ml iohexol 300 mg I/ml for lumbar, thoracic or cervical myelography. The overall assessment of the opacification in the subarachnoid space, which was moderate in only one case of each group and otherwise good, showed no differences between the preparations. The tolerance of both concentrations of iotrolan proved to be significantly better than those of iohexol: at a significance level in the chi-square test of p less than 0.001 in a simple size of 25 patients per preparation with 240 mg I/ml and at a significance level of p +/- 0.05 in a sample size of 50 patients per preparation with 300 mg I/ml.

Background: A new tube voltage-switching dual-energy (DE) CT system using a novel deep-learning based reconstruction process has been introduced. Characterizing the performance of this DE approach can help demonstrate its benefits and potential drawbacks.

Purpose: To evaluate the technical performance of a novel DECT system and compare it to that of standard single-kV CT and a rotate/rotate DECT, for abdominal imaging.

Plant parasitic nematodes (PPN) are important pests of numerous agricultural crops especially vegetables, able to cause remarkable yield losses correlated to soil nematode population densities at sowing or transplant. The concern on environmental risks, stemming from the use of chemical pesticides acting as nematicides, compels to their replacement with more sustainable pest control strategies. To verify the effect of aqueous extracts of the agro-industry waste coffee silverskin (CS) and brewers' spent grain (BSG) on the widespread root-knot nematode , and on the physiology of tomato plants, a pot experiment was carried out in a glasshouse at 25 ± 2 °C.

Contrast agent concentration optimization in CTA using low tube voltage and dual-energy CT in multiple vendors: a phantom study.

We investigated the feasibility and extent to which iodine concentration can be reduced in computed tomography angiography imaging of the aorta and coronary arteries using low tube voltage and virtual monochromatic imaging of 3 major dual-energy CT (DECT) vendors. A circulation phantom was imaged with dual source CT (DSCT), gemstone spectral imaging (GSI) and dual-layer spectral detector CT (SDCT). For each scanner, a reference scan was acquired at 120 kVp using routine iodine concentration (300 mg I/ml).

Purpose: Pain sensation and extravasation are potential drawbacks of contrast media (CM) injection during computed tomographic angiography. The purpose was to evaluate safety and patient comfort of higher flow rates in different CM protocols during coronary computed tomographic angiography.

Methods: Two hundred consecutive patients of a double-blind randomized controlled trial (NCT02462044) were analyzed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how effective latex gloves coated with different contrast agents are compared to traditional lead gloves for radiation protection.!
  • Six groups were tested, including lead gloves and various contrast agents like iopromide, iomeprol, povidone-iodine, and barium sulfate, to measure X-ray absorption.!
  • Results showed that barium sulfate-coated gloves had the best radiation absorption, suggesting they could serve as a viable alternative to lead gloves for protection against radiation.!
