The Roseophages, a group of marine viruses that uniquely infect the Roseobacter clade of bacteria, play a significant role in marine ecosystems. Here we present a complete genomic sequence of an N4 phage 'vB_DshP-R1', which infects Dinoroseobacter shibae DFL12, together with its structural and genomic features. vB_DshP-R1 has an ~ 75 nm diameter icosahedral structure and a complete genome of 75,028 bp. This is the first genome sequence of a lytic phage of the genus Dinoroseobacter.

Co-metabolism is an effective strategy for the removal of refractory pollutants during biodegradation. This study reports that Rhodococcus DCB-5 can utilize 4-chlorophenol as a growth substrate to initiate the co-metabolic degradation of 4-chloroaniline. Comprehensive analyses of the genome, transcriptome, enzymes, and intermediate products identified key genes and a putative co-metabolic degradation pathway involved in the degradation process by Rhodococcus.

Genome-wide association studies have been highly successful at identifying common variants associated with cancer; however, they do not explain all the inherited risks of cancer. Family-based studies, targeted sequencing, and, more recently, exome-wide association studies have identified rare coding variants in some genes associated with cancer risk, but the overall contribution of these variants to the heritability of cancer is less clear. Here, we describe a method to estimate the genome-wide contribution of rare coding variants to heritability that fits models to the burden effect sizes using an empirical Bayesian approach.

CD163 is the primary receptor for PRRSV, and its SRCR5 domain, encoded by exon 7, is crucial for supporting PRRSV infection. Previous studies have used CRISPR/Cas9 technology to remove exon 7 from the host genome, and the edited pigs were completely resistant to PRRSV infection. In this study, we used CRISPR/Cas9 technology mimicking an adenine base editor (ABE) to edit the splice acceptor site of exon 7, rendering it nonfunctional.
