We evaluated the efficacy of a procedure that incorporated a mirror to teach gross motor imitation with a 2-year-old boy who had been diagnosed with autistic disorder. Responses taught with a mirror were acquired more quickly than responses taught without the mirror and were maintained after the mirror was removed. These data indicate that a mirror can facilitate acquisition of motor imitation.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the potential application of NAO in guiding patients through rehabilitative exercises using external audiovisual stimuli, focusing on temporospatial control in terms of range of motion (ROM), execution time and movement smoothness.
Methods: This is a preliminary analysis involving ten healthy volunteers and two patients with shoulder musculoskeletal disorders. The protocol was developed in two phases (III and IV) with different ROM limits and including flexion-extension (FE), external-rotation (ER) and internal-rotation (IR) exercises, performed at two speeds and both with and without NAO assistance.

Vocal learners, including humans and songbirds, acquire their complex vocalizations by accurately memorizing and imitating the vocal patterns of other individuals. In songbirds, the caudomedial nidopallium (NCM), considered the secondary auditory region, has been suggested to play a critical role in memorizing and recognizing the songs of tutors. However, the mechanisms by which NCM neurons encode the acoustic information of tutor song are not yet fully understood.

Purpose: This study compared the occurrence of different types of generalization (within-class, across-class, and total generalization) following motor-phonetic speech therapy and linguistic-phonological speech therapy in children with a cleft palate ± cleft lip (CP ± L).
Method: Thirteen children with a CP ± L ( = 7.50 years) who previously participated in a block-randomized, sham-controlled design comparing motor-phonetic therapy ( = 7) and linguistic-phonological therapy ( = 6) participated in this study.

Motor impairments are common in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) although less is known about the neural mechanisms related to such difficulties. This review provides an outline of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) findings associated with execution and observation of naturalistic actions in autistic adults. Summarized outcomes revealed that adults with ASD recruit similar brain regions as neurotypical adults during action execution and during action observation, although with a difference in direction and/or magnitude.
