Nanoparticles of a new two-dimensional cerium(III) coordination polymer compound, [Ce(pzdc)(pzdcH)(H2O)3]n (1), (H2pzdc=2,3-pyrazinedicarboxylic acid), have been synthesized by a sonochemical process and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), FT-IR spectroscopy and elemental analyses. Compound 1 was structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and was shown that it consists of 2D sheets that construct a three-dimensional supramolecular architecture via non-covalent interactions i.e. hydrogen bonding. The thermal stability of compound 1 both for its crystals and nanostructures has been studied by the thermal gravimetric (TG) method and compared with each other. The role of ultrasound irradiation power and the concentration of initial reactants on the size and morphology of the nano-structured compound 1, has been investigated. Calcination of compound 1 at 800°C under air atmosphere yields ceria nanoparticles. Furthermore, the fluorescent properties of compound 1 at room temperature were studied.

Efficient Deep-Blue Organic Light-Emitting Diodes Employing Doublet Sensitization.

Adv Mater

Fast and efficient exciton utilization is a crucial solution and highly desirable for achieving high-performance blue organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). However, the rate and efficiency of exciton utilization in traditional OLEDs, which employ fully closed-shell materials as emitters, are inevitably limited by spin statistical limitations and transition prohibition. Herein, a new sensitization strategy, namely doublet-sensitized fluorescence (DSF), is proposed to realize high-performance deep-blue electroluminescence.

Five new β-diketonate Ce mononuclear complexes, [Ce(Btfa)(HO)] (1), [Ce(Btfa)(phen)] (2), [Ce(Btfa)(bipy)] (3), [Ce(Btfa)(terpy)] (4) and [Ce(Btfa)(bathophen)(DMF)] (5), where Btfa = 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-phenyl-1,3-butanedionate, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, bipy = 2,2'-bipyridyl, terpy = 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine and bathophen = 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline, have been synthesized and structurally characterized through X-ray diffraction of single crystals. The central Ce atom displays a coordination number of 8 for 1, 2 and 3 and of 9 for 4 and 5. Under a 0 T external magnetic field, none of the given compounds exhibits single molecule magnet (SMM) behaviour.

Metal-Ligand Redox Cooperativity in Cerium Amine-/Amido-Phenolate-Type Complexes.

The synthesis and characterization of two cerium complexes of redox-active amine/amido-phenolate-type ligands are reported. A tripodal framework comprising the tris(2-(3',5'-di--butyl-2'-hydroxyphenyl)amino-phenyl) amine (HClamp) proligand was synthesized for comparison of its cerium complex with a potassium-cerium heterobimetallic complex of the 4,6-di--butyl-2-[(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imino]quinone (ap) proligand. Structural studies indicate differences in the cerium(III) cation coordination spheres, where Ce(CHCN)(HClamp) () exhibits shorter Ce-O distances and longer Ce-N bond distances compared to the analogous distances in K(THF)Ce(ap) (), due to the gross structural differences between the systems.

Conventional nanozyme-based pesticide detection often requires the assistance of acetylcholinesterase. In this work, a CuCeTA nanozyme was successfully designed for the direct colorimetric detection of glyphosate. Direct detection can effectively avoid the problems caused by cascading with natural enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase.

Polymer composites with good thermal conductivity are gaining more and more attention in the current electronics sector, due to their superior heat management capabilities. However, conventional thermally conductive polymer composites are usually subject to interruptions in heat transfer because of physical damage. The present study prepared mechanical property-enhanced thermally-conductive self-healing composites through compositing a self-healing polyurethane matrix with hydroxylated boron nitride (hyBNNSs).
