We report on multiple extraordinary optical extinction (EOE) phenomena achieved through encapsulated dual metallic gratings. They are evidenced in TM polarization by angularly and spectrally resolved transmission measurements in the mid-infrared wavelength range. We show that EOE can be achieved on both sides of the extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) resonance, leading to pass-band filters with an improved rejection rate.

The increasing demand for controlling electromagnetic waves has led to the construction of a variety of metasurface absorbers with different functionalities. In this Letter, we designed a kind of single-layer metasurfaces with delicately designed hybrid magnetic meta-atoms (HMMAs), which can be operated as perfect absorbers (PAs) for the electromagnetic wave incident at a specified direction, but at the mirror symmetric direction, the nearly total reflection is achieved. This remarkable nonreciprocal phenomenon arises from the time-reversal symmetry (TRS) breaking nature of magnetic surface plasmon as well as the lattice Kerker effect due to the interaction of HMMAs in the single-layer metasurfaces.

We investigate the emergence of self-hybridized thermal magnetoplasmons in doped graphene nanodisks at finite temperatures upon being subjected to an external magnetic field. Using a semianalytical approach, which fully describes the eigenmodes and polarizability of the graphene nanodisks, we show that the hybridization originates from the coupling of transitions between thermally populated Landau levels and localized magnetoplasmon resonances of the nanodisks. Owing to their origin, these modes combine the extraordinary magneto-optical response of graphene with the strong field enhancement of plasmons, making them an ideal tool for achieving strong chiral light-matter interactions, with the additional advantage of being tunable through carrier concentration, magnetic field, and temperature.

As a nonlinear optical phenomenon, upconversion (UC) occurs when two or more low-energy excitation photons are sequentially absorbed and emitted. Upconversion nanomaterials exhibit superior photostability, non-invasiveness, a unique near-infrared anti-Stokes shift, and enhanced tissue penetration capability. However, general upconversion nanomaterials typically utilize visible light (400-700 nm) for excitation, leading to limited tissue penetration, background signal interference, limited excitation efficiency and imaging quality issues due to tissue absorption and scattering.

Enhancing the conversion efficiency of all-solid-state lasers through the rational design of crystal materials with superior linear and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties remains a formidable challenge. Herein, we present a novel approach to optimizing these properties in KBe2BO3F2 (KBBF)-analog crystals via functional group self-polymerization. This strategy led to the synthesis of two new optical crystals: noncentrosymmetric CsAs2O3Br and centrosymmetric CsAs4O6Br.

Two-dimensional (2D) materials are materials with a thickness of one or a few atoms with intriguing electrical, chemical, optical, electrochemical, and mechanical properties. Therefore, they are deemed candidates for ubiquitous engineering applications. Films and three-dimensional (3D) structures made from 2D materials introduce a distinct assembly structure that imparts the inherent properties of pristine 2D materials on a macroscopic scale.
