The vast majority of parallel scientific applications distributes computation among processes that are in a busy state when computing and in an idle state when waiting for information from other processes. We identify the propagation of idle waves through processes in scientific applications with a local information exchange between the two processes. Idle waves are nondispersive and have a phase velocity inversely proportional to the average busy time. The physical mechanism enabling the propagation of idle waves is the local synchronization between two processes due to remote data dependency. This study provides a description of the large number of processes in parallel scientific applications as a continuous medium. This work also is a step towards an understanding of how localized idle periods can affect remote processes, leading to the degradation of global performance in parallel scientific applications.

Article Synopsis
  • The study introduces a capacitance-based method for recognizing fatigue while driving, which includes four main steps: signal acquisition, pre-processing, blink detection, and fatigue recognition.
  • A measurement circuit using the FDC2214 is designed to capture signals, which are then filtered to remove noise before analyzing blink characteristics such as eye closing and opening times.
  • The final stage utilizes a BP neural network to assess fatigue levels, achieving a high accuracy rate of 92% in recognizing fatigue across different lighting conditions.

In general, judging the use/idle state of the wireless spectrum is the foundation for cognitive radio users (secondary users, SUs) to access limited spectrum resources efficiently. Rich information can be mined by the inherent correlation of electromagnetic spectrum data from SUs in time, frequency, space, and other dimensions. Therefore, how to efficiently use the spectrum status of each SU implementation of reception multidimensional combination forecasting is the core of this paper.

When people close their eyes, the power of alpha-band oscillatory brain activity increases. We explored the possibility that this could be related to a suppression of visual processing, rather than being a default dynamic of the visual brain. We recorded brain activity while people meditated with their eyes open or closed, and when people attended to or imagined having auditory or visual experiences.

Background: To develop a warning system that can prevent or minimize laser exposure resulting in kidney and ureter damage during retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) for urolithiasis. Our study builds on the hypothesis that shock waves of different degrees are delivered to the hand of the surgeon depending on whether the laser hits the stone or tissue.

Methods: A surgical environment was simulated for RIRS by filling the body of a raw whole chicken with water and stones from the human body.

Delay minimization based uplink resource allocation for device-to-device communications considering mmWave propagation.

This paper addresses the resource allocation problem in multi-sharing uplink for device-to-device (D2D) communication, one aspect of 5G communication networks. The main advantage and motivation in relation to the use of D2D communication is the significant improvement in the spectral efficiency of the system when exploiting the proximity of communication pairs and reusing idle resources of the network, mainly in the uplink mode, where there are more idle available resources. An approach is proposed for allocating resources to D2D and cellular user equipments (CUE) users in the uplink of a 5G based network which considers the estimation of delay bound value.
