The charge distribution and coverage with surfactant molecules at foam film surfaces plays an important role in determining foam film structure and stability. This work uses the concentration depth profiling technique neutral impact collision ion scattering spectroscopy to experimentally observe the charge distribution in a foam film for the first time. The charge distribution at the surface of a foam film and the surface of the corresponding bulk liquid were measured for a cationic surfactant solution and the surface excess as well as the electric potential were determined. Describing the internal pressure of foam films by using the electrochemical potential is introduced as a new concept. The foam film can be seen to have a more negative surface charge compared to the bulk liquid surface due to re-arranging of the surfactant molecules. It is discussed how the change in surface excess and electric potential change the electrochemical potential and the stability of the foam film.

The nonthermal destruction of aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) stockpiles, one of the major culprits responsible for water and soil contamination by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), is extremely challenging because of the coexistence of mixed recalcitrant PFAS and complicated organic matrices at extremely high concentrations. To date, the complete defluorination of undiluted AFFF at ambient conditions has not been demonstrated. This study reports a novel piezoelectric ball milling approach for treating AFFF with a total organic fluorine concentration of 9080 mg/L and total organic carbon of 234 g/L.

Producing hydrogen through water splitting often faces challenges of overpotential, stability, and expensive catalysts, which limit its efficiency and hinder the advancement of hydrogen production technologies. Nickel foam and nickel meshes have emerged as promising materials for electrolyzer electrodes due to their high surface area and the ability to produce electrolyzers with a very small gap between the anode and cathode. This study presents a simple method for coating Ni-based electrodes with a chiral Ni-Au film, using electroplating, thus enhancing its efficiency dramatically.

The synthesis of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with excellent luminescent properties and their effective application in the field of bionic sensing remain a formidable challenge. Herein, a series of COFs with different numbers of hydroxyl groups are successfully synthesized, and the number of hydroxyl groups on the benzene-1,3,5-tricarbaldehyde (BTA) linker influences the properties of the final COFs. The COF (HHBTA-OH) prepared with hydrazine hydrate (HH) and BTA containing one hydroxyl group as the ligands exhibits the best fluorescent performance.

To effectively utilize sesbania gum in coal dust control and address the limitations of excessive viscosity and mediocre strength, oxidation treatment was used to improve its fluidity. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and sodium trimetaphosphite (STMP) were used to enhance oxidized sesbania gum OSG, and crosslinking technology was used to improve its mechanical stability. This study developed a novel foam dust suppressant OSG-PVA/SDBS by response surface design, and the optimized dust suppressant material exhibited excellent adhesion and curing properties.
