Emerging clinical applications of selected biomarkers in melanoma.

Melanoma is a lethal skin disease with a mostly predictable clinical course according to a known constellation of clinical and pathologic features. The distinction of melanoma from benign melanocytic nevus is typically unequivocol; however, there is a subset of tumors known for its diagnostic challenges, development of late metastases, and difficulties in treatment. Several melanocytic tissue biomarkers are available that can facilitate the histopathologic interpretation of melanoma as well as provide insight into the biologic potential and mutational status of this disease. This review describes the clinical application of some of these established and emerging tissue biomarkers available to assess melanocytic differentiation, vascular invasion, mitotic capacity, and mutation status. The selected tissue biomarkers in this review include MiTF, Sox10, D2-40, PHH3, H3KT (anti-H3K79me3T80ph), anti-BRAFV600E, and anti-BAP-1.

Ligands of CD6: roles in the pathogenesis and treatment of cancer.

Cluster of Differentiation 6 (CD6), an established marker of T cells, has multiple and complex functions in regulation of T cell activation and proliferation, and in adhesion of T cells to antigen-presenting cells and epithelial cells in various organs and tissues. Early studies on CD6 demonstrated its role in mediating cell-cell interactions through its first ligand to be identified, CD166/ALCAM. The observation of CD6-dependent functions of T cells that could not be explained by interactions with CD166/ALCAM led to discovery of a second ligand, CD318/CDCP1.

Introduction: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is essential for brain imaging, but conventional methods rely on qualitative contrast, are time-intensive, and prone to variability. Magnetic resonance finger printing (MRF) addresses these limitations by enabling fast, simultaneous mapping of multiple tissue properties like T1, T2. Using dynamic acquisition parameters and a precomputed signal dictionary, MRF provides robust, qualitative maps, improving diagnostic precision and expanding clinical and research applications in brain imaging.

Interest in preventative dietary interventions for human health has increasingly focused on the endocannabinoid (eCB)-like compound palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), a bioactive lipid mediator with anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and neuroprotective properties. This Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020-compliant systematic review aimed at collecting and comprehensively discussing all available data from Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) evaluating the efficacy and tolerability of PEA supplementation across human illnesses in patient populations. Overall, 48 eligible outputs from 47 RCTs were extracted, covering neuropsychiatric ( = 15), neurological ( = 17), somatic ( = 13), and visceral ( = 11) disturbances, as well as PEA effects on blood/plasma or other tissue biomarkers ( = 10).
