Background: Elevated iron in brain is a source of free radicals that causes oxidative stress which has been linked to neuropathologies and cognitive impairment among older adults. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of iron levels with transverse relaxation rate, R, and white matter hyperintensities (WMH), independent of the effects of other metals and age-related neuropathologies.

Method: Cerebral hemispheres from 437 older adults participating in the Rush Memory and Aging Project study (Table 1) were imaged ex-vivo using 3T MRI scanners.

Article Synopsis
  • The synthesis and characterization of the quadruply-bonded dimer Mo(CHNMeBH) is reported, with each molybdenum(II) center connected to two BDAM ligands, resulting in an unbridged Mo-Mo bond.
  • Structural and solution NMR data, analyzed through McConnell's equation and supported by DFT calculations, reveal that ligand-induced magnetic anisotropies can distort NMR chemical shifts, leading to potential overestimations of metal-metal bond contributions.
  • A new method is proposed to quantify and correct these ligand effects, suggesting that the magnetic anisotropy of the Mo-Mo quadruple bond is approximately -800 × 10 m molecule, challenging previous inflated estimates in the literature.

Passive imaging for mid-wave infrared (MWIR) is resistant to atmospheric pollutants, guaranteeing image clarity and accuracy. Arrayed photodetectors can simultaneously perform radiation sensing to improve efficiency. Room temperature van der Waals (vdWs) photodetectors without lattice matching have evolved rapidly with optimized stacking methods, primarily for single-pixel devices.

The relationship between molybdenum and kidney-related disease outcomes, including hyperuricemia, is not well investigated. This study aims to determine whether molybdenum and its antioxidative property are associated with systemic inflammation and kidney-related disease parameters including hyperuricemia. Urinary molybdenum's epidemiological relationship to hyperuricemia and kidney-disease related outcomes was evaluated in 15,370 adult participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) collected between 1999 and 2016.
