We report on an ab initio molecular dynamics study of liquid methanol under the effect of a static electric field. We found that the hydrogen-bond structure of methanol is more robust and persistent for field intensities below the molecular dissociation threshold whose value (≈0.31 V/Å) turns out to be moderately larger than the corresponding estimate obtained for liquid water. A sustained ionic current, with ohmic current-voltage behavior, flows in this material for field intensities above 0.36 V/Å, as is also the case of water, but the resulting ionic conductivity (≈0.40 S cm(-1)) is at least one order of magnitude lower than that of water, a circumstance that evidences a lower efficiency of proton transfer processes. We surmise that this study may be relevant for the understanding of the properties and functioning of technological materials which exploit ionic conduction, such as direct-methanol fuel cells and Nafion membranes.

Molecular dynamics simulations of the structure and dynamics in mixtures of ionic liquids and alcohols.

Molecular dynamics simulations were conducted on mixtures of ionic liquids (ILs) and alcohols, specifically methanol, ethanol, and 1-propanol. Two different ILs, [Mmim][MeSO] and [Bmim][MeSO], were used with varying alcohol mole fractions to investigate the impact of alkyl chain length of cations, alcohol types, and alcohol concentrations on different structural and dynamic properties. Unique characteristics of the ILs were observed due to the varying polarity of solvents and the creation of diverse local environments surrounding the ILs.

Selective Liquid Chemical Production in Waste Polyolefin Photorefinery by Controlling Reactive Species.

Photocatalytic upcycling of waste polyolefins into value-added chemicals provides promise in plastic waste management and resource utilization. Previous works demonstrate that polyolefins can be converted into carboxylic acids, with CO as the final oxidation product. It is still challenging to explore more transformation products, particularly mild-oxidation products such as alcohols, because of their instability compared with polymer substrates, which are prone to oxidation during catalytic reactions.

The study of green analytical chemistry has garnered significant attention in the context of mitigating global environmental contamination. In this study, we present two methodologies for environmentally friendly chromatography that enable simultaneous and specific determination of Saxagliptin (SAX), metformin (MET), and a pharmacopoeial impurity of MET known as melamine (MEL). The initial method employed in this study is High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC), which utilized 60 F 254 silica gel-coated Mark HPTLC plates on aluminum sheets as the stationary phase.

Compound-specific stable isotope analysis (CSIA) using liquid chromatography-isotope ratio mass spectrometry (LC-IRMS) is a powerful tool for determining the isotopic composition of carbon in analytes from complex mixtures. However, LC-IRMS methods are constrained to fully aqueous eluents. Previous efforts to overcome this limitation were unsuccessful, as the use of organic eluents in LC-IRMS was deemed impossible.

Synthetic antidiabetic drugs are often associated with various adverse side effects, including hypoglycemia, nausea, gastrointestinal disturbances, headaches, and even liver damage. In contrast, plant-derived natural antidiabetic bioactive compounds typically exhibit lower toxicity and fewer side effects and have been reported to aid effectively in diabetes management. These plant extracts regulate diabetes by restoring pancreatic function, enhancing insulin secretion, inhibiting intestinal glucose absorption, and facilitating insulin dependent metabolism.
