Purpose: To assess the effect of dexamethasone (DEX) 0.7 mg (Ozurdex™) on refractory and treatment-naïve diffuse diabetic macular edema.

Methods: A prospective study was conducted in 76 patients (40 refractory and 36 naïve) with visual acuities (VA) of 15-72 ETDRS letters, central macular thickness (CMT) >300 µm and intraocular pressure (IOP) <25 mm Hg. After the DEX implant (±photocoagulation), VA, CMT and total macular volume (TMV) were assessed monthly for 6 months.

Results: At every visit, VA improved significantly from baseline (p < 0.001) in both groups, but values were significantly better in the naïve group, while CMT and TMV decreased significantly (p < 0.001) and similarly in both groups. The naïve group received more photocoagulations (p = 0.001). There were 7.9% transient IOP increases >10 mm Hg.

Conclusions: Substantial improvements in VA and CMT were achieved in both groups, and a gain of 1 ETDRS line was observed in the treatment-naïve group as compared to the refractory group, with a good safety profile in both.

Background: Epidermoid cyst (EC) located completely within the pituitary infundibulum is a rare entity with only seven reported cases. In this study, we have described our experience with resection of intra-infundibular epidermoid cysts (IECs) and reviewed the existing literature highlighting its distinguishing features and operative nuances.

Methods: Three consecutive cases of IEC operated at our institute was retrospectively studied.

Objective: This study explores the influence of social network structures on self-management behaviors among older adults with diabetes in rural Korean villages, focusing on dietary management, physical activity, and blood glucose monitoring.

Design: Employing social network analysis (SNA), the study assessed network structures in three villages, focusing on variations in degree, closeness, and betweenness centralities to understand their impact on health behavior dissemination and adoption.

Results: The analysis identified significant differences in network configurations across the villages.

Transdermal drug delivery presents a compelling alternative to both needle injection and oral ingestion of medication, as it enhances patient adherence and convenience through its non-invasive and painless administration method. The use of microneedles penetrates the barrier of the stratum corneum, facilitating the sustained delivery of drugs across the skin. However, their efficacy has been limited by the slow diffusion of molecules and often requires external triggers.
