Micro composites are commonly characterized in bulk. Here we study the temperature triggered release of a bioactive compound from single isolated microcapsules. We monitor the release process in real-time using a novel thermal microscopy method combining laser-induced heating and fluorescence imaging.

Metabolic rewiring underlies effective macrophages defense to respond disease microenvironment. However, the underlying mechanisms driving metabolic rewiring to enhance macrophage effector functions remain unclear. Here, we demonstrated that the metabolic reprogramming in inflammatory macrophages depended on the acetylation of CLYBL, a citramalyl-CoA lyase, at lysine 154 (K154), and blocking CLYBL-K154 acetylation restricted the release of pro-inflammatory factors.

A pivotal pathway of photodynamic therapy (PDT) is to prompt mitochondrial damage by reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, thus leading to cancer cell apoptosis. However, mitochondrial autophagy is induced during such a PDT process, which is a protective mechanism for cancer cell homeostasis, resulting in undermined therapeutic efficacy. Objective: To investigate the role of allergen-stimulated P2Y receptor activation in regulating ATP, IL-33 and DNA release by human bronchial epithelial (hBE) cells and mouse airways.
