We report the first accessible channel-like open pore architecture of ordered 2D hexagonal mesoporous IrO2 films and its utilization as an efficient anode for electrocatalytic water oxidation. A well-ordered mesostructure of circa 7 nm pores were obtained by a facile one-pot soft-templating strategy, employing a [Ir(OH)6](2-) precursor stabilized by a triblock copolymer "Pluronic F127" as a pore-directing template. A mesoporous IrO2 film calcined at 400 °C (∼70 nm thick) affords a high surface area of 512 m(2) cm(-3) and 2 times higher O2 evolution during the electrocatalytic water oxidation relative to an untemplated IrO2 coating film.

Constructing the pore structures in amorphous metal oxide nanosheets can enhance their electrocatalytic performance by efficiently increasing specific surface areas and facilitating mass transport in electrocatalysis. However, the accurate synthesis for porous amorphous metal oxide nanosheets remains a challenge. Herein, a facile nitrate-assisted oxidation strategy is reported for synthesizing amorphous mesoporous iridium oxide nanomeshes (a-m IrO NMs) with a pore size of ∼4 nm.

Current electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are either expensive (such as IrO, RuO) or/and exhibit high overpotential as well as sluggish kinetics. This article reports mesoporous earth-abundant iron (Fe)-nitrogen (N) doped carbon electrocatalysts with iron clusters and closely surrounding Fe-N active sites. Unique to this work is that the mechanically stable mesoporous carbon-matrix structure (79 nm in pore size) with well-dispersed nitrogen-coordinated Fe single atom-cluster is synthesized via rapid thermal annealing (RTA) within only minutes using a self-assembled bottlebrush block copolymer (BBCP) melamine-formaldehyde resin composite template.

The development of earth-abundant and high-performance bifunctional catalysts for both the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline electrolytes is required to efficiently produce hydrogen by electrochemical water splitting, but remains a challenge. We have fabricated mesoporous cobalt iron oxide inverse opals (m-CFO IO) with different mole ratios of cobalt and iron by a wet chemical method using polystyrene beads as a hard template, followed by calcination in air. The performance of the m-CFO IO as OER and HER electrocatalysts was investigated.

Nanomaterials-based enzyme mimics (nanozymes), by simulating enzyme catalysis, have shown potential in numerous biocatalytic applications, but nanozymes face significant challenges of catalytic activity and reusability that may restrict their practical uses. Herein, we report facile fabrication of surface-clean IrO clusters supported on dendritic mesoporous silica nanospheres (DMSNs), which exhibit superior peroxidase-like activity, high thermal/long-term stability, and good recyclability. The IrO clusters (1.
