This paper proposes an indicator of seismic performance based on life-cycle cost of a building. It is expressed as a ratio of lifetime damage loss to life-cycle cost and determines the seismic performance of isolated buildings. Major factors are considered, including uncertainty in hazard demand and structural capacity, initial costs, and expected loss during earthquakes. Thus, a high indicator value indicates poor building seismic performance. Moreover, random vibration analysis is conducted to measure structural reliability and evaluate the expected loss and life-cycle cost of isolated buildings. The expected loss of an actual, seven-story isolated hospital building is only 37% of that of a fixed-base building. Furthermore, the indicator of the structural seismic performance of the isolated building is much lower in value than that of the structural seismic performance of the fixed-base building. Therefore, isolated buildings are safer and less risky than fixed-base buildings. The indicator based on life-cycle cost assists owners and engineers in making investment decisions in consideration of structural design, construction, and expected loss. It also helps optimize the balance between building reliability and building investment.

This study focuses on the geotechnical evaluation of the foundation conditions of the Agrippa Monument at the Acropolis of Athens, aiming to propose interventions to improve stability and reduce associated risks. The assessment reveals highly uneven foundation conditions beneath the monument. A thorough collection of bibliographic references and geotechnical surveys was conducted, classifying geomaterials into engineering-geological units and evaluating critical parameters for geotechnical design.

This paper presents a new catalogue of the 2022/2023 Adriatic Offshore Seismic Sequence obtained by machine learning-based processing. The procedure performs the automatic picking and association of phases starting from the analysis of the continuous waveforms recorded by 40 seismic stations of the Italian National Seismic Network and 5 stations of the SISMIKO emergency group network. The earthquakes were detected over a 3-month period, between 1 November 2022 and 31 January 2023.

The failure mode of thin-walled C-channel beams typically manifests as premature local buckling of the compression flange, leading to insufficient utilization of material strength in both the flange and the web. To address this issue, this study adopts the approach of increasing the number of bends to reinforce the flange and adding V-shaped stiffeners in the middle of the web to reduce the width-to-thickness ratio of the plate elements, thereby delaying local buckling and allowing for greater plastic deformation. However, the challenge lies in the irregular cross-sectional shape and complex buckling patterns.

To achieve the assembled connection between dovetail profiled steel sheets and the boundary members in dovetail profiled steel concrete composite shear walls (DPSCWs), self-tapping screws were employed. Three DPSCW specimens connected with self-tapping screws were tested under combined axial and cyclic lateral loads to evaluate their hysteretic response, focusing on the influence of the number of self-tapping screws and the axial compression ratio. The self-tapping screw-connected DPSCWs exhibited a mixed failure mode, characterized by shear failure of the profiled steel sheets and compression-bending failure of multiple wall limbs divided by ribs on the web concrete.
