An operationally simple and selective method for the direct conversion of benzylic C-H to C-F to obtain mono- and difluoromethylated arenes using Selectfluor™ as a fluorine source is developed. Persulfate can be used to selectively activate benzylic hydrogen atoms toward C-F bond formation without the aid of transition metal catalysts.

A visible-light-induced C(sp)-H functionalization of indoles by using Schreiner's thiourea as the organocatalyst has been reported. With the aid of a three-component domino reaction between 2-hydroxybenzaldehydes, cyclic-1,3-diketones, and a variety of indoles, the corresponding densely functionalized xanthene scaffolds were isolated in good to excellent yields. Apart from these, a broad range of other bioactive natural products including kojic acid, lawsone, and 4-hydroxycoumarin were also investigated instead of indoles for the present work.

Facilitated by an electron donor-acceptor (EDA) complex, an efficient β-trifluoromethylation and perfluoroalkylation of enamides with Togni reagent or perfluoroalkyl iodides is presented under transition-metal-free, photocatalyst-free and mild reaction conditions. Notably, using this photocatalyst-free strategy, direct trifluoromethylation and perfluoroalkylation of quinoxalin-2(1)-one derivatives was also achieved a photoactive electron donor-acceptor complex.

Conversion of quinoline C-H bonds into C-C bonds is essential for obtaining the enormous array of derivatives required for pharmaceutical and agrochemical development. Despite over a century of synthetic efforts, direct alkylation and alkenylation at C3-H positions in a wide array of quinoline precursors remain predominantly challenging and elusive. This report outlines the first successful quinoline C3-H alkylation and alkenylation reactions, exhibiting exceptional regio- and stereoselectivity, all achieved under redox-neutral and transition-metal-free conditions.

Transition-Metal-Free Sulfoximidation of Sulfonylhydrazones for the Synthesis of -Sulfanylidenehydrazonamides.

Key Laboratory of Novel Targets and Drug Study for Neural Repair of Zhejiang Province, School of Medicine, Hangzhou City University, 310015 Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

Herein, we report a transition-metal-free C-H bond sulfoximidation protocol of sulfonyl hydrazones with hypervalent iodine(III) reagents. A library of novel -sulfaneylidenehydrazonamides was constructed via chemoselective C-N bond formation reactions at aldehyde C-H bonds of sulfonyl hydrazones in the presence of a base. The reaction demonstrated broad substrate group diversity under exceedingly mild reaction conditions, and excellent yields were achieved at room temperature.

A transition metal-free Se-catalyzed C-H amination protocol for α'-amination of enol derivatives has been developed. This reaction can be used to functionalize a wide variety of oxygen- and halogen-substituted alkenes spanning a vast range of nucleophilicities, giving α'-aminated enol derivatives with high regioselectivity. Amination of E/Z mixtures of alkenes proceeds stereoconvergently to give the (Z)-enol derivatives exclusively.
