A selective system was developed to detect heparin in aqueous solutions by using MPA(3-Mercaptopropionic Acid)-capped Mn-doped ZnS quantum dots (QDs)/polybrene (hexadimethrine bromide) hybrids as a sensitive room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) nanosensor. In this system, the RTP intensity of QDs was remarkably enhanced via electrostatic self-assembly after the addition of polybrene. The addition of heparin into the system was competitively bound to polybrene and enable to deprive it from the surface of QDs, as a result, the RTP intensity of Mn-doped ZnS QDs/polybrene hybrids was reduced with the increased of heparin concentration. Based on this effect, a selective system was proposed to detect heparin. Under the optimal conditions, the change of RTP intensity was proportional to the heparin concentration from 0.05 to 1.4 U mL(-1) (about 0.38-10.76 μg mL(-1)) and the limit of detection (LOD) was 0.021 U mL(-1) (about 0.16 μg mL(-1)). This proposed nanosensor is simple and relatively free of interference from coexisting substances, which can be applied to detect heparin in heparin injection and human serum. In addition, a new pathway was also provided based on the assembly of QDs with other cationic homopolymers for further design of biosensors and detection of biomolecules.

Background: Despite the guidelines' appeal to treat patients with deep vein thrombosis and low-risk pulmonary embolism in outpatient settings, the real-world evidence shows a high prevalence of inpatient therapy leading to unwarranted health resource utilization. The study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of rivaroxaban in outpatient settings compared to inpatient treatment.

Methods: A propensity score-matched comparison with a historical inpatient population was performed based on a retrospective analysis of patients with deep vein thrombosis and without pulmonary embolism treated as outpatients with oral rivaroxaban.

This case report highlights a potential vaccine safety concern associated with the Pseudorabies virus (PRV) live vaccine, which warrants further investigation for comprehensive understanding. Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT), a novel syndrome of adverse events following adenovirus vector COVID-19 vaccines, was observed after vaccination with Zoetis PR-VAC PLUS. This led to a 100% morbidity and high mortality among PRV-free Danish purebred pigs from Danish Genetics Co.

Platelet factor 4 (PF4), a specific protein primarily found in megakaryocytes and platelet α-granules, plays an essential role in the coagulation process. It carries a high positive charge and thus has a unique ability to readily form complexes with negatively charged heparin. This interaction between PF4 and heparin plays a crucial role in platelet aggregation and thrombosis, resulting in heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT).

Heparin (HEP) is one of the oldest anticoagulant drugs, widely used in clinical settings, particularly in surgery and dialysis machines. Despite its long history, it remains extensively employed in medical practice. This study introduces a selective and cost-effective method for the rapid detection of HEP using red-emission carbon dots (R-CDs).

Introduction: The choroid plexus is located in the cerebral ventricles. It consists of a stromal core and a single layer of cuboidal epithelial cells that forms the blood-cerebrospinal barrier. The main function of the choroid plexus is to produce cerebrospinal fluid.
