Collection and Characterization by Mass Spectrometry of the Neutral Serine Octamer Generated upon Sublimation.

Anal Chem

January 2021

Aston Labs, Department of Chemistry, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana 47907, United States.

Serine forms neutral octameric clusters during sublimation, as demonstrated by electrostatically deflecting thermally ionized serine species from the sublimate, then gently ionizing the remaining neutrals for examination by mass spectrometry (MS). The MS results demonstrate a strong homochiral preference in the neutral octamer (measured after its gentle ionization), while the smaller serine clusters are achiral. In the initial stages of its sublimation, nonracemic solid serine generates a neutral serine monomer as the principal species in the vapor phase, with a significant enantiomeric enrichment relative to the solid.

A simplified fascial model of pelvic anatomical surgery: going beyond parametrium-centered surgical anatomy.

Anat Sci Int

January 2021

Gynecology and Obstetrics 1, Department of Surgical Sciences, City of Health and Science, University of Torino, Via Ventimiglia 3, 10126, Turin, Italy.

The classical surgical anatomy of the female pelvis is limited by its gynecological oncological focus on the parametrium and burdened by its modeling based on personal techniques of different surgeons. However, surgical treatment of pelvic diseases, spreading beyond the anatomical area of origin, requires extra-regional procedures and a thorough pelvic anatomical knowledge. This study evaluated the feasibility of a comprehensive and simplified model of pelvic retroperitoneal compartmentalization, based on anatomical rather than surgical anatomical structures.
