Five signal processing techniques were applied to ratio spectra for quantitative determination of bisoprolol (BIS) and hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) in their binary mixture. The proposed techniques are Numerical Differentiation of Ratio Spectra (ND-RS), Savitsky-Golay of Ratio Spectra (SG-RS), Continuous Wavelet Transform of Ratio Spectra (CWT-RS), Mean Centering of Ratio Spectra (MC-RS) and Discrete Fourier Transform of Ratio Spectra (DFT-RS). The linearity of the proposed methods was investigated in the range of 2-40 and 1-22 μg/mL for BIS and HCT, respectively. The proposed methods were applied successfully for the determination of the drugs in laboratory prepared mixtures and in commercial pharmaceutical preparations and standard deviation was less than 1.5. The five signal processing techniques were compared to each other and validated according to the ICH guidelines and accuracy, precision, repeatability and robustness were found to be within the acceptable limit.

Given that optical thermometers are widely used due to their unique advantages, this study aims to address critical challenges in existing technologies, such as insufficient sensitivity, limited temperature measurement ranges, and poor signal recognition capabilities. Herein, we develop a thermometer based on the fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) of Sb-doped CsNaInCl (CsNaInCl:Sb). As the temperature increases from 203 to 323 K, the thermally induced transition from triplet to singlet self-trapped excitons (STEs) leads to enhanced 455 nm photoluminescence (PL) from singlet STE recombination.

Aqueous antibacterial colloids are potential agents that kill bacteria via physical contact. Conventionally, antibacterial agents are designed to be small, cationic, or hydrophobic. However, hydrophobic materials easily aggregate in aqueous media, drastically inhibiting their activity.

Charge detection mass spectrometry (CDMS) allows direct mass measurement of heterogeneous samples by simultaneously determining the charge state and the mass-to-charge ratio (/) of individual ions, unlike conventional MS methods that use large ensembles of ions. CDMS typically requires long acquisition times and the collection of thousands of spectra, each containing tens to hundreds of ions, to generate sufficient ion statistics, making it difficult to interface with the time scales of online separation techniques such as ion mobility. Here, we demonstrate the application of Fourier transform multiplexing and drift tube ion mobility joined with Orbitrap-based CDMS for the analysis of multimeric protein complexes.

Cell viability assessment plays a crucial role in biological research, pharmaceutical development, and toxicological identification. Here, we used GelRed, a sensitive and safer nucleic acid dye, to selectively label dead cells with red fluorescence (FL) thus distinguishing dead cells from live ones. Further more, the combined use of GelRed and SYTO 9 (another nucleic acid dye) enabled the clear differentiation in FL spectra between the two physiological statuses.

Nickel, an essential transition metal, plays a vital role in biological systems and industries. However, exposure to nickel can cause severe health issues, such as asthma, dermatitis, pneumonitis, neurological disorders, and cancers of the nasal cavity and lungs. Due to nickel's toxicity and extensive industrial use, efficient sensors for detecting Ni ions in environmental and biological contexts are essential.
