In this paper, we report a study in which a laser biospeckle technique is used to detect the climacteric peak indicating the optimal ripeness of fruits. We monitor two batches of harvested Golden apples going through the ripening phase in low- and room-temperature environments, determine speckle parameters, and measure the emitted ethylene concentration using gas chromatography as reference method. Speckle results are then correlated to the emitted ethylene concentration by a principal component analysis. From a practical point of view, this approach allows us to validate biospeckle as a noninvasive and alternative method to respiration rate and ethylene production for climacteric peak detection as a ripening index.

Objective: The aim of the study was to analyze the effects of 16 weeks of Jazz Dance training compared to a control group in postmenopausal women, postintervention, and at the 6- and 12-month follow-ups, on cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, muscle strength, and sleep quality.
Methods: Two-arm randomized clinical trial with a total of 47 women (jazz dance intervention group [JDIG] [n = 23] and control group (CG) [n = 24]) with a mean age of 53.41 ± 2.
Background: Women with obesity and/or type-II-diabetes have an increased breast cancer risk, increased metastasis, and poorer prognosis, especially after menopause. In a rat model of high-fat-diet and menopause-induced weight gain, we previously reported that treatment with the anti-diabetic drug metformin for 8-weeks after ovariectomy (OVX; modeling menopause) reduced growth of existing mammary tumors and inhibited new tumor formation. This identified the menopause transition as a potential window-of-opportunity for interventions to decrease obesity-associated breast cancer incidence and disease progression.

A woman is born with her life-time supply of eggs, and these are surrounded by a group of cells, the follicular cells, which form the ovarian follicles. The ovarian follicles will determine a woman's entire reproductive lifespan (presence of menstrual cycles and length of fertility) and healthspan (i.e.

Introduction: The reduction in sex hormone production across the menopause transition is thought to accelerate age-related decline in muscle mass, strength, and stability, increasing the risk of falls and fractures. We aimed to investigate whether a novel low-impact resistance exercise program could improve strength, balance, and body composition and whether any improvement was affected by menopause status.
Methods: Seventy healthy, moderately active pre- (PRE; 46.
