We report the first example of Pd-catalyzed site-selective α-C(sp(3))-H oxidation/acetoxylation of amides through an unusual [4,6]-bicyclic metallacycle intermediate with 1-aminoanthraquinone as a new bidentate directing group. Background: Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis (SSPE) is a fatal disorder marked by gradual cognitive and motor deterioration, leading to death typically within 1-3 years.
Case Report: A 20-year-old woman with progressive abnormal behaviour, forgetfulness, and involuntary movements showed significant improvement after treatment with interferon and isoprinosine. Initially severely cognitively impaired and dependent, she regained independence and demonstrated marked cognitive enhancement, her MMSE improved from 15 to 28 and reduced myoclonus.
Peptoids have emerged as a useful alternative to peptides. However, -acylated peptoids have occasionally undergone truncation at the terminal peptoid unit under acidic conditions. We previously reported on the mechanistic and electronic aspects of the acid-catalyzed truncation of -acylated peptoids.
In our curated panel of complex isolates, strain AU28442 was unusually highly β-lactam resistant. To explore the molecular mechanisms leading to this phenotype, we performed whole genome sequencing (WGS) and microbiological and biochemical assays. WGS analysis revealed that strain AU28442 produced two β-lactamases, AmpC22 and a novel PenA-like β-lactamase denominated PenA39.
Two water-soluble block copolymers composed of acrylic acid (AA), 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid (AMPS), and optionally maleic anhydride (MAH) were synthesized through ammonium persulfate-catalyzed free radical polymerization in water. The introduction of aluminum sulfate (AS) into the resulting mixtures significantly reduced the setting times of the paste and enhanced the mechanical strength of the mortar compared to both the additive-free control and experiments facilitated solely by pure AS. This improvement was primarily attributed to the inhibition of rapid Al hydrolysis, which was achieved through coordination of the synthesized block copolymers, along with the formation of newly identified hydrolytic intermediates.
Ebselen is a drug in clinical trials for several diseases and degenerative conditions where oxidative stress is implicated. A series of novel ebselen analogues was synthesized, including hydroxy-, alkoxy- and aminomethylene derivatives, as well as hybrid species where the ebselen selenium atom is shared with other potent antioxidant structures, such as cyclic selenenyl sulfide, cyclic seleninate ester and spirodioxyselenurane moieties. Conjugates of ebselen with cholesterol, prednisolone and the radical inhibitor BHT were also prepared.
