Objective: To characterize the clinical courses and outcomes of patients presenting with post-myocardial infarction (MI) ventricular septal rupture (VSR) receiving temporary microaxial transvalvular left ventricular assist device (tVAD) support.
Methods: Between December 2019 and July 2023, 10 consecutive patients presented with a post-MI VSR. All 10 patients received a tVAD.

The population of very elderly patients (aged 80 years and older) in intensive care units (ICUs) is steadily growing. These patients have unique physiological, cognitive, functional, and social characteristics that affect their entire ICU course. Immobility, delirium, dysphagia, malnutrition, and polypharmacy are among the most common geriatric syndromes in these patients, and they contribute to a higher risk of acute and long-term functional decline and mortality.

Introduction: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurogenerative disease with no effective treatment to date. Despite numerous clinical trials, the majority of studies have been futile in their effort to significantly alter the course of the disease. However, these studies may still provide valuable information for identifying patient subgroups and generating new hypotheses for future research.

Human thymine-DNA glycosylase (TDG) excises T mispaired with G in a CpG context to initiate the base excision repair (BER) pathway. TDG is also involved in epigenetic regulation of gene expression by participating in active DNA demethylation. Here we demonstrate that under extended incubation time the full-length TDG (TDGFL), but neither its isolated catalytic domain (TDGcat) nor methyl-CpG binding domain-containing protein 4 (MBD4) DNA glycosylase, exhibits significant excision activity towards T and C in regular non-damaged DNA duplex in TpG/CpA and CpG/CpG contexts.

The Triple Aim of health care involves the simultaneous pursuit of improving the individual experience of care, population health, and reducing per capita costs of care. Our institution established a Mortality Review Committee (MRC) to review instances of inpatient mortality as part of continuing quality improvement with the goal of improving goal concordant care. In this article, we report the experience of MRC.
