Collective dynamics of a two-dimensional (2D) hard-disc fluid was studied by molecular dynamics simulations in the range of packing fractions that covers states up to the freezing. Some striking features concerning collective excitations in this system were observed. In particular, the short-wavelength shear waves while being absent at low packing fractions were observed in the range of high packing fractions, just before the freezing transition in a 2D hard-disc fluid. In contrast, the so-called "positive sound dispersion" typically observed in dense Lennard-Jones-like fluids, was not detected for the 2D hard-disc fluid. The ratio of specific heats in the 2D hard-disc fluid shows a monotonic increase with density approaching the freezing, resembling in this way the similar behavior in the vicinity of the Widom line in the case of supercritical fluids.

Objective: Obtaining sufficient decompression and solid fusion and avoiding approach-related injuries simultaneously are still challenging for the treatment of hard disc herniation in thoracolumbar junction. A combined full-endoscopic decompression and interbody fusion via a transforaminal approach was used to achieve this goal. The purpose of this study was to introduce the technical notes and clinical outcomes of this novel technique.

A 65-year-old woman who underwent transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion at L4-5 for very severe spinal stenosis combined with a hard disc and instability presented with a headache on postoperative day (POD) 3 and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage on POD 5. Follow-up lumbar spine computed tomography (CT) was performed on POD 7, and fluid collection at the operation site was observed on CT images. Under the diagnosis of iatrogenic dural injury, absolute bed rest and lumbar drain catheter insertion at the L2-3 level were performed for three days, but the patient continued to complain of severe headache until POD 10.

Objective: To relieve foraminal root impingement due to lateral soft disc fragments, bony spurs, or other rarer causes.

Indications: Soft disc fragment whose bulk is >2/3 lateral to the lateral border of the thecal sac. Intraforaminal dorsal bony narrowing of the root canal.

Background: An unsettled controversy over the appropriate surgical approach in cases of cervical radiculopathy caused by degenerative vertebrae and intervertebral discs is still present. The purpose of this study is to examine the efficacy of microsurgical posterior foraminotomy in the treatment of cervical radiculopathy and to find out whether the underlying pathology (soft disc herniation/spondylosis) is of value in predicting long-term outcome after this procedure.

Methods: Patients, who underwent posterior cervical foraminotomy (PCF) at our department between 2006 and 2013 for unilateral mono-segmental lateral soft disc herniation, or spondylosis, or both, were enrolled in this study.
