Three microbial strains were isolated from the rhizosphere of alfalfa (Medicago sativa), grass mixture (Festuca rubra, 75 %; Lolium perenne, 20 %; Poa pratensis, 10 %), and rape (Brassica napus) on the basis of their high capacity to use crude oil as the sole carbon and energy source. These isolates used an unusually wide spectrum of hydrocarbons as substrates (more than 80), including n-alkanes with chain lengths ranging from C12 to C32, monomethyl- and monoethyl-substituted alkanes (C12-C23), n-alkylcyclo alkanes with alkyl chain lengths from 4 to 18 carbon atoms, as well as substituted monoaromatic and diaromatic hydrocarbons. These three strains were identified as Gordonia rubripertincta and Rhodococcus sp. SBUG 1968. During their transformation of this wide range of hydrocarbon substrates, a very large number of aliphatic, alicyclic, and aromatic acids was detected, 44 of them were identified by GC/MS analyses, and 4 of them are described as metabolites for the first time. Inoculation of plant seeds with these highly potent bacteria had a beneficial effect on shoot and root development of plants which were grown on oil-contaminated sand.

Amines are essential due to their structural diversity and biological significance. Introducing the valuable bicyclopentane (BCP) moiety at the α-position of amines offers a promising strategy for developing novel bioactive compounds. This study outlines a divergent synthesis approach to generate α-amino-functionalized bicyclopentyl iodides and methylene cyclobutanols under mild and environmentally sustainable conditions.

This work explores the adsorption and permeation of chemical warfare agents on polymer coatings to assess their protective potential. Two highly cross-linked aliphatic polyurethanes (PUs) were synthesized from two diisocyanate trimers, and their adsorption and permeation of dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP) and 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide (CEES) were analyzed using quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation and gas chromatography. The study revealed distinct adsorption properties for each agent and the PU.

Dimethyl hexane-1,6-dicarbamate (HDC), the vital intermediate for nonphosgene production of hexamethylene-diisocyanate (HDI), was effectively synthesized via carbonylation of 1,6-hexanediamine (HDA) using methyl carbamate (MC) as a carbonyl source over a silanol-rich MCM-41 catalyst. The effects of reaction conditions, including the reaction temperature, molar ratio of raw materials, methanol dosage, catalyst dosage, and reaction time, on the HDC yield were evaluated. Under the reaction conditions with a reaction temperature of 190 °C, a molar ratio of HDA, MC, and methanol of 1:6:50, a catalyst dosage of 10 wt %, and a reaction time of 3 h, the yield of HDC can reach as high as 92.

This work discloses a two-step, one-pot approach to ω-functionalized esters via cleavage of the alicyclic fragment of cycloalkanone semicarbazones. This approach is based on a combination of the synthesis of various alkoxyhydroperoxides via cycloalkanone semicarbazone ozonolysis and interaction of these peroxides with transition metal salts, leading to cleavage of the aliphatic cycle and subsequent ω-functionalized ester formation. A broad series of ω-halogen or pseudohalogen esters have been successfully synthesized in yields ranging from 23 to 73% per starting semicarbazone.

The functionalization of α-C(sp)-H bonds in amines has become a focal point of contemporary research. Here, we report a new approach utilizing photocatalysis α-C(sp)-H bond functionalization in alicyclic and aliphatic secondary amines facilitated by intramolecular 1,5-hydrogen atom transfer (HAT). This finding unlocks a sustainable method for rapidly constructing complex heterocyclics cross-dehydrogenative C-C coupling of protected amines and nitrogen-containing heterocycles.
